Staying nearby and thinking of riding one or the other or both.
What would you do?
Was considering riding cwm Rhaeder, having some lunch then heading to Brechfa to do a loop there
Thanks
Unless it's changed Cwm Rhaeder is very short (like 7km) so you could easily do that. I've not been to Brechfa for a few months but there was a lot of it closed. Worth checking before you go.
Option potentially to join the raven trail at Brechfa onto Abergorech trail (different car park further up the road) but looking at the trail diversions in place on natural resources the joining up section section of the raven trail looks to be closed.
Cwm Rhaeder is probably a three loops before your bored option, but if you are putting in the effort of getting their, its only a little further to where you can start a classic Doethie Valley ride https://www.mbr.co.uk/mountain-bike-routes/doethie-valley-mountain-bike-route-313958. So maybe Doethie in the morning, Cwm Rhaeder laters. Been dry here for 2 weeks so probably optimum for the valley at the moment if you fancy some non-trail centre tracks.
Cwm Rheader is really short - we did it as a warm up in way to Brechfa before doing the full black in to red into black loop. Decent day.
I haven’t been for a few years so no idea what’s possible with various closures at Brechfa
Not been up to Brechfa for a while now due to conflicting reports of closures.
Did visit Glyncorwygg on Sunday though and rode the Skyline trail if your after a longer day out.
Thanks for the replys,
That Doethie ride has peaked my interest, however I feel like it would be daft to attempt it as I'm on holiday and have my bike but don't actually have much more than my bike, helmet, knee pads and a water bottle with me.
Think I'll head to Rhaeder first then ride the red at Brechfa, mbwales site seems to suggest it's not affected by forestry work.
I did plan to ride afan on the way home but it adds quite a chunk to the journey so I'll probably pop back into Nant yr arian for a quick ride
FYI small amount of closure at Nant on a section called hippity hop, but the larger loop over to mark of Zorro and back up the leg burner climb is all open again after a few years so all in all worth a stop (biased as its my local)
I rode cwm Rhaeder first, got a puncture at the top of the descent. So dropped in as it hissed away, thankfully I had a double down on, it must've sealed in the end. Got back to the carpark and had 5psi.
Really enjoyed it, quite fun and flowy.
Pumped the tyre up and drove to abergorlech, tyre was holding pressure so off I went.
I did enjoy it, felt quite a grind in places but I made it round in just under 2 hours.
You can't currently link across to the raven trail according to the trail closure map it seems
