Morning all, just looking for some help/advice on CV writing. At 28 years old, I've never had to write a proper CV, so now I'm trying to put one together but have no clue how to go about it. I've had a look on Google, but the examples on there all seem so generic and it'd probably be fairly obvious that I'd copied from a crap online template. Any help, good examples, or anything useful to keep in mind would be hugely appreciated.

Balls, I meant to put that in! I'm looking to go from mechanical aircraft engineering to working off shore within the seismic surveying industry (probably a mechanical role).

There is no right way to write a CV. There are lots of things to do and lots not to do, but a 3rd party writing my CV would absolutely send alarm bells ringing!
Andy, that sounds quite specialised so probably better leave advice to those in the industry. However, basics: clean, clear structure,no typos, obviously tailored specifically to the role and have something unique on it.

Andy, I've been working in the seismic industry for the last 20 year's, if you need any info give me a shout.
Have you looked on the IAGC website, it has links to the recruitment pages for most of the companies.
DEF get somebody else to look at it. I have been involved in recruitment, and any spelling errors or obvious BS put the CV straight in the Big Fat No pile.
- Use lots of bulletpoints
- Especially since you're in a science-based industry
- It really helps people comprehend your CV
- And it means you can emphasise the bits you want to
Keep it short, 2-3 pages.
Page 1 - all about you, qualification, hobbies, etc
remaining pages, employent history, more details on recent stuff, less on older if it looks like going on to long. much emphasis on what matches what they're looking for.
covering letter as well, explaining why you're the right man for the job and have always wanted to work for them

I used to do career coaching and cv / interview prep as a job, mail me via profile and I can send you a load of stuff.
And don't start or end sentences with and.
And a short CV is one page. No more than two !

Remember to put your mission statement as 'To bodly go where no-one has gone before'. Anyone who puts this on their CV for a job that I'm advertising automatically gets an interview.
Should be to go boldly though.
