Hi I took my car for MOT last night and although it passed, they told me that one of the CV joint covers hadn't been clipped back on, will it be ok to drive it until the weekend (50 miles) or will the water get in and destroy the drive shaft?

I'm surprised they passed it like that - mine failed for the same thing.

Jack it up, take the wheel off. Easy access.

Just do it.

Can I use a jubilee clip? Cable tie?

Yes, but on certain cars its a known problem so you can get stronger clips. They tend to pop off when you stretch them on full lock.

Jubilee clips (big-ens for this job) tend to hold betterer as long as there is clearance, which in the vast majority of cases there is!

Clean if contaminated and repack with black moly grease, tin costs about 6-8 quid. Make sure the boot is fully slid back onto the cv joint body before securing, job jobbed.

Ouch! Did you over there, no need to change unless it's split/perished.

Don't forget the axle stand before you get underneath.

We don't want to be reading about you in the papers tomorrow. 😯
