Hi folks, just hoping the STW hive mind may be able to help me on this one?
I part own a Cutting Die manufacturing company and we are looking for more work at the moment but we have only really worked within the corrugated board industry up to now ( boxes, POS displays etc).
So basically what I’d like to know is what other industries use Cutting Dies? Do you use them within your work? This may give us at least a starting point for contacting different companies etc. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
I dont use them but imagine anything produced from leather or fabric to a repeated design is going to use them, also stuff thats made from thin plastic such as Mudhugger mudguards would use them too.
Gasket manufacturing.
Used, obviously in motor industry, motorcycle industry (there is quite a large sector in making parts for classic and vintage vehicle servicing and restoration.
In the oil/gas/hydraulic sectors (thinking pipe joints, flange face joint gaskets)
Cutting out shapes in sheet rubber, or foam.
My other half does graphic design for kids books. They do loads of sticker books that require cutting dies.
edit: loads and loads. You wouldn’t believe.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, we did actually work with a gasket maker years ago now I remember so that might be another avenue to go down again. Cheers
Flexible pcb manufaturers use srd's but there are only a couple on the uk and i think they may now be using laser cutters now. Melin flex in hartlepool make flex circuits but im not sure the use srd's anymore. May be worth a try. Try pump repair companies as they may use clicker presses to make custom gaskets etc... other than that good luck!
I need a cutting die to punch a slot in our seattubes.

I thought they just left the gusset unsewn?
Often used to be used in sign making, kiss cutting self adhesive vinyl, sure some people still use them.
I know a company who use them for cutting reflective vinyl for traffic bollards.
one supplier we use convert self adhesive tapes and use die cutters for this.
Many of the things which would have been made using a die are know made on these types of kit, I would guess.
That machine video has just made me cry 😭
Sorry!
The whole digital print and cut thing has moved on at a bit of a pace.. I would love one of those cutters!
Making holes in plastic food packaging. We have have 5 of these at work
.
Electro magnet on top with a cutter with film running over the die underneath
I thought you were having trouble, and your new plant wouldn't grow.
