12 hour flight yesterday which got in at 7am, now sat here at 4am bright as a button with my two kids and wife sat about thinking - what the hell do we do now?

I fly lots and unless i can really not help it i will stay awake till my bed time local time.
In general you can only shift an hour a day so you've no choice but to suffer it.
A fairly reliable method is to fast for the duration of the flight and then make your next meal breakfast at the correct time. Takes some willpower though...
Which direction? I find setting myself on "arrival" time from the moment I'm in the lounge helps.
Only recent jetlag was on a flight back from Vegas. Don't know what went wrong, but I was banjaxed for days!
I always (use to fly inter-continental every month, on top of twice-weekly Euo flights for the best part of 10 years) set my watch to the destination time, as the plane takes off. And then go to sleep based upon my watch 'time'.
No help to you now.

It hits me hard everytime and got 2 weeks in the states 2 weeks europe cycle about to start for the next few months.
I try not to do anything silly like going to the gym at 3am local time anymore and it seems to help a bit.
Cant imagine doing it with the kids.
I find setting my 'time' to destination time as early as possible before the flight helps the most. Meals, sleep etc closer to the end than local seems to be good. I had a tub of melatonin I picked up in the USA - think you can get it here now. I know a few aircrew who use it to ease their body clock back now and then - seems to help me.
