I heard a fantastic Cure song the other day and didn't hear the name of it. It's quite an old one and has a really long (around two minute) guitar intro and I know it's not "The Forest". Please please come up with some tracks that it could be, so I can You Tube them and find it. Many thanks guys and girls.

Where did you hear it, might narrow it down to being a single vs an album track?

From their singles collection Staring at the Sea, quite a few seem to start with a 'long' guitar intro, but how about Play for Today? Primary? Jumping someone else's train?

Play for today +1.
It had quite a long, slow guitar intro that builds into sucking drum beats.

Seventeen seconds is just a fantastic album. Fact.

The Cure are the best band ever. Fact.
A Forest is the best song ever, fact.
IMHO 🙂
Robert Smith is a Legend and 17 Seconds, Faith, Pornography Disintegration and Wish are some of the best albums ever.

I love the Cure me, now off to play From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea.....

My second offering is; "Just Like Heaven"

Cracking song with some good cover versions to boot. Particularly like Dinosaur Jnr's and Katie Melu's versions at either end of the spectrum.

Yup, Just Like Heaven would be my bet - alone above a raging sea that stole the only girl I loved & drowned her deep inside of me - best lyric ever.

This is going to drive me nuts. So far it's none of the You Tube clips that have been posted (thanks everyone), and I now realise that it's going to take over my life till I find it. I think it's an album track rather than a single, and I've now got to go through their entire back catalogue until I discover what it is. Will trawl through DezB's list first and when I've found it I'll post the result (if anyone still cares by then). Big prize for the winner of a massive pat on the back.

I'm going for The Kiss from their Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me album nearly 4 minute guitar intro. Have been listening to The Cure all morning as a result of this thread. First band I ever saw play live and saw them play loads of times. Fantastic! Think I might cue up Echo and the Bunnymen next.

Great thread! I love the cure. Anyone see them at Glastonbury in 1984? I was nine at the time they played the Forrest in a thunder storm way past midnight for about 45 mins, blew my mind! Op just like heaven? Got strange girl on the computer right now!

Ah bloody hell! I thought we'd got an answer.
I still bet it was Jumping Someone Else's Train.

I guess I'm the only one who thought they were dull as dishwater live then? I prefer my bands to, you know, give it some! They just stood there, for the whole gig. Pissed me off. About '82 this was, didn't bother seeing them again. Cripes, how long ago was 1982?!

Got side tracked with all the great tunes, Can't beat a bit of the Cure. Thanks.

Incidentally was the tune on the radio? If it was a BBC station they issue the track listings (other probably do too)
