Genius.

Haven't laughed so much at a programme for a long time.

Loved it, they should show that in schools that'll make history classes more interesting.

Is this like the little skits she does on Screenwipe, extended into a half hour programme?

I like a little Cunk.  But too much Cunk soon begins to feel laborious in the extreme.  Would definitely rather go singlespeeding*

*In the Land of Spikes and Hill-Filth, naturally. 😂

If you haven’t seen it the inspiration for this programme (among others) Nairn across Britain is available on iplayer and is superb, as much for the documenting of a lost Britain as for the architecture..

she was on rad\mac on radio 6 yesterday.

how the people she interviews keep a straight face I will never know they must have seen on TV before.

She (Diane Morgan) was on a Adam Buxton podcast recently. she was saying the interviews are genuine, she arrives in character, and stays in character till they leave.

i think they record a lot more than they can use...

Mrs BigJohn was reluctant to watch it.  We both liked her bits on Screenwipe but thought the faux-naif, sub Louis Theroux format would end up like a 6th form review.

How wrong - it was brilliant.

Loved it when she asked that archeologist guy "why did iron age man bury all his stuff.....did he think someone was going to nick it?"

The ''Bay Watch Tapestry' bit had me in stiches too. I've never even seen her before so maybe this is why I enjoyed it so much?

Is it a series?

Not technically the first. There was the Shakespeare special which was absolutely superb and there are some other bits on YouTube. First of the new series though.

Chopper, if you've never seen her before you have so entertaining catching up to do. Look for Philomena Cunk's Moments of Wonder on YouTube.

Was good, but a series is stretching the concept for me.

Still it's crossing over into mainstream. Diane Morgan is brilliant and I think will be popping up more and more.

Really enjoyed last night's episode. Great comedy.

If the interviews are genuine, then the people she was interviewing all came off really well whilst the interviews still managing to have me in hysterics.

Often when somebody is in AliG/Borat type interview situations, the aim is to make the guest look like a fool,  however all the guests performed wonderfully. They managed to try and respond to each of her ridiculously funny questions with an answer calibrated at a level that the Philomena character would understand and still remaining professional.

Really ?

I lasted all of five minutes ..and thought the " comedy " was complete garbage ...if it's meant to be in the same vein as Ali G..it falls way way short ..

I wouldn't quite describe it as garbage but it certainly doesn't have me in stitches, and I spent longer watching it last night because of this thread. My 14 yo looked up at one point and asked "Is this supposed to be funny?" and then went back to her screen.

I love it. Love all the Moments of Wonder.

It's very subtle in how it's funny. I think many people just miss the little twists in how she words things.

'What is clocks?' 🙂

‘What is clocks?’

Our family's favourite Cunk line. Gets used a lot around here.

it's ok. I think Cunk is better as a short in Charlie Brooker's Wipe stuff like with Doug Stanhope.

she's a great comedy actress though and was great in Motherland.
