Like it or lothe it, I quite like it, but with the current amount of traffic on the roads it's not used very often. However I tend to use it on long distance, early mornings or late nights - but definatly anticipate using it when heading to the Alps this year.
However, it seems to have stopped working? Any ideas. It's an A4 2.0 tdi.

Not on an Audi but my Honda developed a fault with a sticky brake switch which stopped me engaging the cruise. Worth a check?
The slider knob on the stalk is slid too far to the right in the off position :p
As Bregante says, there are probably switches on the brake and clutch pedals (to disconnect cruise if brake or clutch pedals pressed); if they're not adjusted correctly, they won't let you engage it. Worth a try?
Check your brake lights. Really common problem on VAG cars. It's a 5 minute job to replace the switch.
yes the rear break like warning keeps tripping - intermittently. hmmm
