Can you pay the bridge toll by card? Just realised I've not a bean in the pockets and not likely to get an easy cashpoint stop beforehand!

****socks, thanks Nick.

Now I just have to look for a proper ATM on the M4! (Refuse to use those ones where you pay a fee!) Or a detour to find one in town, I suppose.

There's a Sainsbury just off J12 of the M4 (toward reading) - bound to have ATMs and all that shizzle.

I got nobbled on this once, had to drive 10miles down the M5 to get to the services. Happy, I was not.

Can't you pay with a card?? fairly sure I did once? or at least, I remember being in the same boat as CFH, ducking off to get to a service station and then getting to the toll both and finding out you can in fact do so??

I think I drove across last time and there was a new sign saying you could use cards now. They won't do paypal or cheque though.

I seem to remember that they changed recently and now take plastic. Double check though. It certainly rings a loud bell.

Oh, if you don't have the money, they close ALL the gates in BOTH directions, set an alarm off and you are escorted whilst you perform a U Turn infront of everyone and they send you back in the oposite lane. Happened to my cousin once. He said it was a tad embarrassing!

Whilst on the subject.............. how do those toll booth card machines manage to process it so quick?

Couple of seconds and it's done, the rev counter is on it's way to red and the tyres are complaining

other machines in shops etc. can take forever sometimes

Can't imagine they'd bother doing the dial up check for such a small amount. Therefore just checking on the preloaded blacklist. Hence quick
