* by critique I mean help me refine 😉
** for me I'm classing this as 88-94
In no particular order:
Snap! ~ Rhythm Is A Dancer
Altern 8 - E-vapor-8
FELIX - Don't You Want Me
BABY D - Let Me Be Your Fantasy
Liquid - Sweet Harmony
I Need Your Love (like the sunshine) - N.R.G. Original Mix
Prodigy - Charlie
2 bad mice - bombscare
Praga Khan - Injected With A Poison
Usura - Open Your Mind
ADAMSKI - Killer
KLF - What time is love
Opus III - It's A Fine Day
The Orb - Little Fluffy Clouds
.
Lose Rhythm Is A Dancer. Its shit!
Replace with
A Trip To Trumpton? Just no! If you must have daft childrens TV themed stuff, then there can be only one...
Needs Bombscare on there. And definitely some Prodigy.
Bombscare & Charle added, Trumpton removed.
I like RIAD 😳
Need KLF The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu
All a bit 'obvious'
Taaaake meeeee into Insaniteeeeee!.......
Needs a bit of Oceanic, innit!
edit: also - Got any Josh Wink?
howsyourdad1 - Member
All a bit 'obvious'
Appreciate that.
I wasn't old enough at the time to fully appreciate the "scene" so I would say a lot of my exposure to it came from MTV and tape number packs so probably more know.
That said the list above is hardly exhaustive so throw in some less familiars.
Edge 1 - Compounded
SL2 - Ragga Tip
Sons of a Loop Da Loop Era - Far Out
Rave? This is all chart music :/
You need future sound of london - papa new guinea in there, doesn't have to be the entire track.
FSOL- Papua New Guinea
You need a bit of plastikman/richie hawtin in there as well, check out sheet one for inspiration
SL2 - and there was me thinking I was being a bit "charty"
Slipmatt and Lime have far more street cred than many listed. I think SL2 is a good call.
And please keep RIAD in your secret guilty pleasures box.. 🙄 😆
Just a few more:
Slam - Positive Education
Derek May - Strings of Life
Aphex Twin - On
S'Express - Theme from S'Express
Bomb the Bass - Beat 'Dis
808 State - Pacific
Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray
CJ Bolland - Sugar is Sweeter (Armand Van Helden Remix)
Laurent Garnier - Man with the Red Face
if you're going to have a prodigy track from that era, surely it's got to be
This has to be in there.
few of others that were perennial favourites back in the day at the likes of raindance, pandemonium or helter skelter
++++1 for Playing with knives..
can I also suggest Jam & Spoon "Follow me". 😀
Rave? This is all chart music :/
Oooh get the hipster. 🙂
Playing with Knives defo.
Slipmatt and Lime have far more street cred than many listed.
This!
If you want less charty:
Acen - Trip to the Moon 2
SL2 -DJs Take Control
Ragga Twins - Spliffhead
Top Buzz - Living In Darkness
DJ's Unite - DJ's Unite
Criminal Minds - Baptised by Dub/Re-Baptised by Dub
Zero B - Lock Up
Dance Conspiracy - Dub War
Fat Controller - In Complete Darkness
It should have been a 😉 rather than a 😆 methinks.
I do love Playing with knives - not literally though!
Great suggestions - A coupe of which I had completely forgotten bout.
Keep it up - except for the comments re RIAD thats a keeper 😛
Everyone actually likes Rhythm is a Dancer, they might as well just admit it.
People go nuts for it at a party. If I'd ever played it. Which obviously I haven't, because it's too cheesy and commercial. 😳
Needs a bit of
plus a bit of
[url=
- Not Forgotten (Hard Hands mix)
[url=
Kante - Yeke Yeke (Hardfloor remix)
I'm in the RIAD is sh*t crowd, you can't just say it gets people moving because so does Vanilla Ice and that's sh*t as well.
it gets people moving because so does Vanilla Ice and that's sh*t as well.
How very dare you. 🙂
May your chump be waxed like a candle and furthermore, may your MC be cooked like a pound of bacon.
Did anybody say...
Leftfield - Not Forgotten (Hard Hands mix)Mory Kante - Yeke Yeke (Hardfloor remix)
I'm in the RIAD is sh*t crowd, you can't just say it gets people moving because so does Vanilla Ice and that's sh*t as well.
Oh good the techno purists have arrived. They're always the guys having the most fun at any party. 😉
However - I wouldn't know about Vanilla Ice as I've never been anywhere it's been played since I was about 10.
And I would have slung this in...
playing with knives +1 gazillion
lfo - we're back
comin' on strong - rythm section
special request - manix
dominator - human resource
energy flash - beltram
and go on you know you want the bouncer
Beltram ~ Energy Flash Great call!

All of these can still give me goosebumps:
Sub Sub - Spaceface
Last Rythmn - Last Rythmn
M.A.N.I.C - I'm coming hardcore
2xtreme - 2xtreme
Frankie Bones - and the break goes again
D.O.P - Groovy beat

The tune (among others, but this got played the most) that turned me into a party-going, loved-up ne'er-do-well... (1994 so just about counts, but not rave really)
not really rave and only just squeaking in before the pre '94 cut off, but worth a listen if you like your screaming piano lines. i have lost my shit to this track on more than one occasion!
getting a little more back on track
and as the techno purists have turned up
Chime by Orbital
Sun Rising by The Beloved
Loaded by Primal Scream
- take me back to my pre-90's clubbing days
Skipping through those tracks I posted above just reminds me of the dark quagmire those times were the beginning of. Thankfully just temporary but took a while.
this thread is getting me far to excitably nostalgic!
before i run off to dig out my joe bloggs, dust of my kickers and try and score some doves, one last contribution - happy memories from shelleys in stoke, sasha and dave seaman as residents, didn't get much better
My kind of thread. Was listening to some old Quest and Dreamscape tapes on the tube the other day. Naawww the memories. Got any water mate? Cheers *sweaty hug* after party round mine after?
And seeing as Ol' Clifford has just got himself an MBE (bostin work ar kid)
Ruffige Kru "Terminator"
[url=
of rhythm - exocist
Here's 45 minutes of DJ Moggy from the Hippodrome in Middleton
Definitely no pop tunes on this
Just pick any of Stu Allan's OSN playlists on Mixcloud.
It's what I use when I'm on the rollers.

4 Hero - Mr Kirks Nightmare
Who's making the STW Early Daze spotify playlist?
Not a massive fan of any of them to be honest......apart from Little Fluffy Clouds which is an absolute belter!
(just in at '94)
Mr Kirks Nightmare - awesome track!
Not sure how to post links, but...
Break of Dawn
Congress - 40 miles

Not forgotten
As an aside to the thread there is a documentary rental on iTunes at the moment called "in ecstasy" for the princely sum of 99p, I can't vouch as to whether or not it is worth watching but as it has Joris Voorn in it i am currently downloading it for t'nights viewing…….now where is that stuff i stashed after new year?……………
A film i can heartily recommend is
Alcatraz give me love
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Prh2BVUpbUo
C J Bolland Mantra
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YspxGsM8rg0
Aphex twin didgeridoo
The orb Blue room
Doc Scott - NHS - Grooverider Natty mix. To throw a little darkness in there.
If you like this sort of thing you need megabass 1. I still play it at least once a week. 4 perfect mixes all cut together absolutely brilliantly. 1990 I think. It's on YouTube now but I paid a FORTUNE for a cd when my cassette player ate my only copy years ago.
after dark on the edge of chaos
The selection that you've gone for are kind of pop tunes that ran alongside the genuine rave scene of the time. Fine if that's your thing...
For two tunes that build up and then, 'kin 'ave it, -
Hard Floor - Acperience 1
DJ Scott Project - U I've got a feeling
Great Idea for a post though !
My previous criticism was way too harsh. KLF's What time is love was an absolutely huge anthem at the first raves. A lot of the more commercial stuff from that period still makes me nostalgic for those times when dance music and raves really felt like some sort of revolution. Dunno if kids will ever get to experience that kind of thing again. Shame.
Blackbox - ride on time
The Grid -Swamp Thing
Both old classics.
Just stick this on:
God knows how many times I've listened to that mix. Hundreds.
I think this may have been overlooked, prepare to get goosebumps...
If polynomial C isn't on it you've done it wrong.
And if you've got room for one more...
