Crippling anxiety...any other sufferers?

I go through spells of crippling anxiety. I genuinely struggle to function, my work suffers, my health suffers. My head is just a foggy mess. This is all combined with actual physical issues, and the symptoms are massively amplified by my anxiety

It's not one thing either. I have health anxiety, I have horrific intrusive thoughts that leave me asking 'did I say that out loud' or ' did I unconsciously write that'. I can't leave the house without checking the doors locked 5 times.

I've tried cbt, ssri's. The only thing that works is valium, which the doc won't prescribe. I'm at the point of trying to get hold of medical cannabis to see if it helps.

Any tips because it's absolutely ruining me, both physically and mentally

Getting out for regular rides, even if they are only ~30mins, helps more if I can get a 90-120min ride in as that means I can get out into the rural sticks having climbed at least one "proper hill" of 250ft+.

But I do struggle with anxiety about leaving home or returning home around times I expect the closest ~3 miles to be busy and hostile (rush hours plus school finish times).

I'm better than I used to be, typically limitting myself to four cups of tea/coffee per day, but sometimes I drink more including guzzling 2l coke bottles... Which heightens anxiety levels.

If all else fails, the turbo beckons and it so helps having a bike ready to go on the turbo, sometimes I won't bother getting changed and pedal in slippers.

I tried Mertazapine for six months in '23, while it got me to sleep within 45mins guaranteed, it left me groggy until gone 1600 the next day having struggled to get up before 1100.

I switched to Sertraline for ~18 months, not so groggy, but despite a pretty controlled withdrawl over ~6 weeks I ended up with horrendous itching on my stomach/limbs for ~6 weeks during the evening and especially overnight (which messed my sleep pattern up so badly).

I can’t really offer much help, as im in a very similar place. But CBt did help a little. Anti depressants have been import t at various low points. The symptom which presents (for me) is severe IBS. So getting good quality help with that has been the biggest positive for me.

Coming in left field here, mentions for anxiety, brain fog and IBS, I used to have a lot of all 3 and then was diagnosed a Coeliac.

I might be absolutely way of course, the IBS has gone totally, the anxiety is still there but I control it better.

A simple blood test at the GP and change of diet helped. The 30% rise in food costs I could do without mind, bloody Free From rip off.

A switch from R4 to R3 genuinely worked wonders for me. No news is good news and I've learnt something about classical music.
