So a few hours ago, literally, she said she wasn't going to step down.

Wonder who pushed her?

Could cause a delay in the Police inquiry into no.10? Or am I being overly pessimistic?

Probably standard, she is over 60, has her damehood and will now shuffle off to the house of lords no doubt.

Just a bit weird to resign, usually they retire, at short notice.

After the statements a few hours ago, that has the whiff of being a deeper story that we currently have.

Maybe she doesn't want to be in charge when the party report comes out.

What’s the bigger story? Whose going or whose taking her place?

Her two deputies are Savid Javids brother and a friend of Sunnaks aren’t they?

Good

Let’s see. Stephen House will be favourite to take over.

Good, she was disgraceful. Bit embarrassing as didn't she literally say earlier today or yesterday that she had no intention of resigning?

As someone above said, looks like Khan gave her the boot.

Not before time but wondering why now?

As it’s not looking good for Boris and she ‘stopped’ the initial investigations.

"Her two deputies are Savid Javids brother and a friend of Sunnaks aren’t they?"

There's an argument that it would be better if the Metropolitan Police Commissioner didn't come from within the ranks. I'd like to see Sadiq Khan push for someone who isn't part of the problem to come in and address the problem.

In charge of an operation that murdered an innocent man, named as obstructing an inquiry into another murder and police corruption, and so on. What has pushed her as previous posts have suggested, when such prior episodes have not?

@thegreatape

Do you think, he seems a bit old, pale and stale for the London mayor to back;)
Basu is apparently too political for the tories but might fit the mayors choice more.
Will Kerr? Did a stint down in London, gave me my long service medal at CEOP, wasn’t adversely thought of iirc.

Yep, there's no smoke without fire. I sense a 'Dead Cat' scenario.

Radio news said the Mayor had asked for an update on the situation and was unsatisfied by the response, consequently she felt he'd lost confidence in her ability to lead the force and so offered resignation which he accepted.

Sadiq publicly put her on warning yesterday, presumably an agreement has been reached.

Rightly (or wrongly) there's a convenient scapegoat for the Mets recent problems, though given all of those, would be unwise to recruit internally?

@kilo

Dep Commissioner often gets it, so that’s why I assume he’s favourite. He’ll 100% be the favourite in his head 😀. I hope it’s not him, I think PSOS has been a net failure, certainly for community policing where I am (N - are you also PSOS?), and I blame his I know best attitude for that.

I never met Kerr but as you say, never heard anything negative.

Good riddance agreed.

Very much this. Wait and see.

I sense a ‘Dead Cat’ scenario.

I don’t think this is a dead cat. No doubt boris, Lynton & co will find a way to spin it.

My take is Kahn pushed and Dick is tired of fighting. She may see a big fight coming that we don’t yet know about and has flown her white flag.

Could just be that she’s mishandled scandal after scandal and Khan has just run out of patience?

Jump or be pushed was probably the line from Khan
So she jumped and kept a nice pension and other pay offs that might not have gone with being pushed

@thegreatape

NCA here, there’s talk of Basu for us as we’re after a chief too, but his wife is head of HR here so whether that would create a conflict? It’ll be interesting if there’s a mayor / government disconnect on the MPS replacement . Recent history does seem to put it as a bit of a hiding to nothing role 🙂

I saw talk earlier about Hogan-Howe looking at the NCA role. Wonder if he might put his hat in the ring fot the Met again 🙂

My money is on Stephen Watson or Matt Jukes. Both Met or ex Met, both Chief Constables already (one of more than one force).

Ah I see. I guess ultimately it won’t affect me much, but I don’t think House would be a great choice for the Met.

An appropriate time to deflect some of the attention...so no doubt there will be at least 10 days of spin and mince.

Does seem odd that a few hours before saying she was staying and then resigns - that seems to be the way of things now - almost everyone who makes a statement saying they are staying seems to move on the next day.

Aware that hasn't been the case with Johnson, but seems to be every other case seems to be that way!

We'll get more shocking news and announcements on all this over the next few days...anyone's guess how slim or vast it will be though.

The Met turns out be harbouring a culture of misogynism and a woman loses her job.

Maybe urban myth but 90's football, Julian Dicks managing West Ham and Arthur Cox managing ?Derby; neither team going very well and supporters expressing frustration by chanting Dicks out! and Cox out! by call and refrain at each other.

The Met turns out be harbouring a culture of misogynism and a woman loses her job.

Don't honestly see the relvance. The misogyny is part of a poor culture, but only part - there's racism, corruption, violence, etc, and she's had chance to sort it and hasn't. Equality is both ways, the Commissioner is not capable irrespective of their gender.

Commander Julian Bennett faces dismissal for gross misconduct amid claims he took the three drugs while on holiday in France between February 2019 and July 2020.

I see the met police federation has come out saying it is all that horrid Sadiq Kahn's fault for picking on poor Cressida. That it is him who has undermined the publics trust in the police and it is absolutely nothing to do with the corruption and crimes committed by the force, the constant cover ups and the persecution of dissenting voices.

They do seem to be occupying the same alternative dimension as the government, but at leat now we’re a bit clearer on what drugs are required to achieve that particular state
