Just got the new wireless mouse and keyboard to replace the old mouse which literally fell apart a couple of weeks ago. I told my employer what would be ok and what to avoid and they went and ordered me the cheapest thing they could find!!! My job is main design engineer and I use cad and drawing packages all day every day so I specifically asked for something up to the job. The keyboard is too small and awkward to hit the keys and the mouse is complete garbage and also too small!
I've objected to my employer and been told that if it works the ill just have to put up with it. If they don't relent i may have to provide my own as this is almost unworkable. To make it worse the directors have just had flashy new Apple Macs. First world rant I realise but I am extremely disappoint
What's stopping you using your old keyboard?
I've used my Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse for 7 years now.
the a,s, d and c keys have all lost their lettering and the rest are fading fast but it's been stalwart in keeping going despite my leaden fingered efforts.
Just tell them you are getting a strained wrist and rsi from the equipment they have supplied.. It can take weeks if not months to recover
Didn't need a keyboard and told them that but they went ahead and got this shite. It's the mouse more than anything which is the issue..... I reckon I'll launch this before the weeks out.
Ask to complete a DSE assessment as your kit's changed. Lets you formally let them know it's not up to scratch and is causing you issues.
or
if it works the ill just have to put up with it.
Well there's an obvious solution to that problem.... ahem.
I'm odd, I like a Trackball at home, happy enough with a regular optical mouse at work though TBH...
If you have specific needs tied to your comfort and continued ability to perform your job get a DSE assessment done to highlight the problem.
Failing that show them the price of a 3D-connexion Space Pilot Pro and suggest that's what a proper CAD station should really have, your slightly posher than normal mouse will look jolly reasonable by comparison...
why not grow a pair of mouseballs and TELL them that you require a better specification mouse to do your job properly and without discomfort. I'd never put up with that kind of rubbish over a £20/30 bit of kit.
and that is why he has the finest mop Mrs Stoners money could buy
she knows how to keep her troops in order....
throw it out the window - claim someone stole it.
pair of mouseballs
Heh. I'd forgotten mouseballs even existed.
We have some spare mice. We can send them as a care package, we'll be glad to run up a press release about our wee charity helping out the engineering sector in these times of cut backs and financial troubles for..., what was the name of the firm?
Do you have a company credit card? Just go to currys at lunch and buy the most expensive mouse and keyboard you can find and book it to expenses. The time / money spent complaining will far outweigh the cost of an expensive mouse!
Swap all the Director's Apple wireless keyboards and mice over.
