You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've just done a general Google search for a bike, and found somebody selling the model and size I want. I've emailed them and they tell me it is still available. Problem is, they are up in Shetland and I am down in Oxford, so there is no chance I'd be able to collect!
Has anyone used Craigslist? Is it 'safe'?
What would make this transaction (if it were to go ahead) 'safer'?
I've used it for dogging once or twice and it worked quite well. Never for buying anything though.
I'll make a note of that.
Deadlydarcy is into dogging....
😉
I'm not a million miles from Oxford, I may be able to go and get it, box it up and post it out to you?
Craigslist is like the venereal disease of online transactions. Much like Gumtree. Wouldnt trust either of them to find me skanky ho, let alone legit bike parts....

Beware of MrNutt - he may not be who he appears to be.... 😕

That's not very helpful!
Teh bike you want is in Shetland? I would think you are quite safe if you get a name and address in Shetland - its a small community and no one can really hide I doubt
I'm not saying this is in any way related but may be worth a look:
Mmm. It is suspicious I suppose. I've asked for more photos, and although he/she has sent me some, they are tiny, and also, the photos have names like:- 4cb5_1.jpg, 5e14_1.jpg, 6c36_1.jpg etc. I have viewed them in photoshop, and they have no exif data.
Here's a link to the ad I found. Fishy?

So he's listing it in London, but the bike is in Shetland. Sounds similar to that BR thread / scam me.
It does doesn't it. I've asked a bunch of questions about the bike and have had no response as of yet.
These were my questions:-
1) How old is it and have you had it from new? How long have you had it? 2) Why are you selling?
3) What is the condition of the bike? Are there scratches/marks/dints/dings etc?
4) Has it had a hard life? What kind of things has it been put through? Anything hardcore?
5) Have the pivots been serviced, or are they due for a service?
6) Has the fork been serviced, or is it due for a service?
7) Are wheels straight and true? Have they been serviced?
8) Do you have receipts for any of the items?
9) Is it annodised? I know mine was and it has a lovely finish to it!
10) What is the condition of the cassette, chainrings and chain? Lots of life left?
And this was the response:-
"Hi
i had it from new.it has low miles as it was my second bike,no dings ,scratches,in as new condition.
you don't have to serviced it any time soon.
in case we have this transaction and you aren`t 100% satisfied with the purchase i will fully refund you
so if you want to have this transaction with me,i will be needing your name and address and i will provide you with my bank details
thx
Robert"
I am 99.9% sure this is completely dodgy. How do I 'shop' this guy?
I'm 100%.
Is there a crime until money changes hands? So I dont know what can be done?
I imaging the bike isnt stolen - it probably doesnt exist.
