Next question....
I'm trying to find temp cover for son1 to share the driving back to the UK from the alpes over the next few days as missus is borked.
Can't find anyone who will do his age with no NCD on a VW campervan.
Brentacre wouldn't and tried various comparison sites.
Quite happy to throw money at the problem but point blank refusal so far.
Anyone know any insurers that would do two day cover for him?
Where are you currently?
Where are you currently
Aussois.
Pick up wife from Grenoble this evening.
Can you put him on yours for rest of year.
When Kevin was injured I'd never driven ours and managed to get back with one overnight stop. Verbier to just south of Reimes and then 7 hours driving next day to get home via tunnel
Fingers crossed you get sorted
Hope you found a solution - adding our 21 year old to the Octavia for a long weekend was eye watering and he had 3 years of his own NCD
I did indeed Tracey, but Brentacre said firm No 🙁
Which is ironic since the alternative is me driving the whole way myself on their policy....
Kids* have gone to get mum then hopefully some lunch and then try to get to Dijonish.
* Not really kids, obvs
****, wrong hospital....
****, wrong hospital....
<Edit: right hospital, wrong part 🙂 >
We got a 19 year old on a year policy for a cheapy home converted Transit with Admiral, who we were insured with.
However, campervan with combination of commuting and anyone under 25 = no go.
So not much help I'm afraid.
Plan B
Easyjet / budget carrier one way flight for borked wife / Fam-a-lam to the UK then you take your time driving?
Basel or Lausanne?
I would offer a competent and responsible driver currently out of employment to come help, but he's only 20 as well...
Anyone from STW up for a long drive?
Have you tried cuvva.com? They've fixed me up with short-term cover in the past, all done over the phone.
I just posted almost the same thing in another thread but, is it specifically temporary cover that's the problem? Solution might be full cover, but then you cancel it under the cooloff period.

Tried just now, but don't know my son's dvlc number. Will try again in the morning. Thank you .
One concern is that they stipulate a UK starting postcode Anyway, I will phone them.

If I could find somewhere that does a nasty combination of 19 years old, business cover for me and campervan then I'll do it. Problem is that brentacre was the only place I found that even did the latter two.

Ahh did you find that too.... In that case the chance of getting full business use on top is zero...

if its just for getting home drop the business cover and worry about that when you get home.
wheres your ferry - done Grenoble to Amsterdam as a sole driver a few times and the french roads are very very relaxed places to drive if you stump up for the tolls.
by comparison i did Limoge to Dunkirk and Dover > Aberdeen
Couldn't pay me to do the Dover > Aberdeen in one day again our roads are horrible places to drive.

Agreed, I did try that with brentacre but it didn't work. I could of course look for a different insurer but reckon waking hours are best spent driving than surfing ( current toilet break excluded).
Anyway, I think we are good now. Only got seven hours to Folkestone which will be ok. My original worry was exacerbated by the fact that my sleeping was so bad the night after, that I didn't think I could drive at all. but it's better now.
Have a safe journey back. And as above, 7hrs on French autoroutes is far nicer/less stressful than the same in the uk. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your wife.
Rigjto, back home. Thanks for the suggestions and company.
PS, if you ever see anyone hammering lengths of 10mm steel rebar into the ground a few m below the edge of a MTB trail, please show them the error of their ways...
Glad you're home.
Righto, back home 🙂
Thanks for the support and suggestions.
PS, if you ever see anyone hammering 80cm lengths of 10mm steel rebar 30cm into the ground 3m below the side of an MTB trail, please explain the heinous error of their ways...
Glad that your back home.
Will keep or fingers crossed for the recovery
