This looks like an awesome gift for [s]my son[/s] ME!!
Played with one at the Coding Club mentioned in another thread.
Not bad. Kind of annoyingly talkative, but I guess kids like that.
I'd have one in a flash, if they did a Bengal-cat-proof version.
179USD or 200CAD or 200GBP! crazy.
Ouch!
For reference, in terms of STEM toys the coding club use Coji, which are £33 from Argos: http://wowwee.com/coji Quite good for younger kids especially.
I have a Mirobot, £60 from https://mime.co.uk/products/mirobot/ which you (and you child) assemble with from a flat pack of laser cut wood.
It can carry a pen which you can raise and lower to draw with. It also has bump and line following sensors. It's main advantage is that it is programmable in multiple different languages from very simple Scratch/Blockly styles to normal Python and Javascript.
Looks awesome - I could see this annoying the new kitten (PS it's a kitten in age - under one, but he is over 4.5kg already - OMFG ! - big pedigree). Looks good fun.

That second vid just looks like the effect of catnip. I'm guessing they put some on Cozmo
