Any botanists in? I can smell the stuff from 20m away, it burns my nostrils almost, after that it makes my chest tight. But I can’t find anything online that suggests this should be a thing?

Just in case it’s not CP. https://flic.kr/p/2m9iPvB this sucker

Not hemlock is it? Hard to see on the pic but looks like maybe not cow parsley but I'm really not sure

You’re not wrong. Hemlock it is. Google lens fail. I thought it was hogweed originally! Cheers

There’s a lad that rides with us sometimes who is extremely sensitive to it - his skin comes out in horrible wheals if he even brushes against it. This is definitely not giant hogweed - he’s the only one affected (so we avoid certain routes if he’s with us).

Hard to tell from that pic. Hemlock often has purplish blotches on the stems and the leaflets are smaller

Professional Botanical Spade-Wrangler here...
Looks like Hemlock to me; purple splotches on the stem and daintier foliage than cow parsley. Have you ever had a bad reaction to Fennel or Aniseed before? lots of people have plant family / species-specific allergic reactions; I’ve got a mate who is highly allergic to Carrots but the whole Apiaceae family will give him similar symptoms to yours.

Somewhat unhelpfully hemlock often grows near to sweet cicely which is both not poisonous but also rather tasty. Worth learning the difference (if in doubt I’ll squeeze a leaf as sweet cicely has a strong aniseed smell).
