Just a heads up for anyone wondering if they should get a flu & Covid vaccination this year. Mrs B and I have previously been offered both annual vaccines by NHS Scotland - but we fell just outside the age range this year (guess the Scottish Govt are trying to save some money….or they think Covid is no longer a thing!).
Anyway, we both got Covid 3 weeks ago, don’t know what variant, but it was as bad as the one I got in 2020. Mrs B was recovering nicely, and thinking about getting out on her e-bike, but now she’s got the full on flu! (She’s got a much better immune system than me, and she’s rarely ill - so if she’s laid out, it’s got to be bad). I can feel the flu bug trying to crawl it’s way into my system now…arghh!
Lesson learned - next year we’re both going to pay the pharmacist to vaccinate us. If anyone on here is wondering whether to bother getting vaccinated, I’d recommend paying private and getting it done ASAP, because this is s***.
Been thinking of getting them private myself as I missed my flu jab due to being ill with suspected COVID (didn't have any test kits) :S and like you I don't seem eligible for the NHS COVID jab this year.
Possibly naively though I wasn't sure if I had some immunity from what was either flu or COVID a month or so back? Whole family were struck down with it.
I've got asthma so (in England) I've been offered the Covid/Flu jabs for a while now, but haven't gotten around to booking. Spurred on by this thread, just clicked on the link they've sent me - no appointments available, check back later. Bah!
I see you can get the flu jab at a local pharmacy but I don't think you can get a Covid booster (unless I'm looking in the wrong place?)
You can get a Covid booster for £100 from e.g. Boots
I can’t get either as I no longer work in the NHS, I would have had both. I suppose one thing is I won’t be exposed to it as much now I’m not working, I don’t want either virus again.
I've just booked my double-vaccinaton for Thursday

I had Covid and flu jabs together from local pharmacy.
@Zilog6128 Our local pharmacy part of s small local chain in England gave me both couple of weeks ago - seemed pretty lax about qualification criteria, though I meet them on a couple of points anyway. So guess worth ringing a couple to find who is doing both?
@northshoreniall thanks, that does indeed seem to be the case! When I use the booking link provided by my GP surgery, it goes to the NHS site but I can only book at the local hospital (who have no appointments currently!) But if I google "book covid vaccination" it takes me to a more general NHS page where I enter my NHS ID & postcode and then yeah I can book both jabs at my local pharmacy (tomorrow if I want!) So I guess I could've also just phoned them or popped in to book it. Sorted!!
Shop around for Covid if you do. I saw it available from £80 to £120.
Friend of mine qualified for free jabs, his wife didn't. When they enquired about her getting covid local pharmacy told them Boots set the price so they to check with them. Guess they may be their suppliers, but seemed odd.
It was £95 for hers
Had both jags last Thursday, was properly floored from 12hrs post vaccination for a good 48hr thereafter. I guess they must be potent cocktails this year ?
There is a bad Flu going around, despite the flu jab I’m 10 days just coming out of it, Jnr 14 days and about 90% recovered. Typical symptoms, seems to hit the sinuses badly.
Check if your employer offers flu vouchers. Mine did and I got my vaccination done at the chemists a few weeks ago.
I’ve had both boosters way over a month ago
hasn’t stopped me getting what ever the hells going around at the minute - nearly 4 weeks of it and still feel fairly crappy
Mrs has had no boosters and she’s the same but no worse than me but both of us have had the same symptoms for the last 3 weekends
god knows what it is but it’s pretty horrid whatever it is
So, tested + for COVID today, called my manager (I work in a NHS laboratory) to ask what the current advice is as to if I should come into work.
She said "official advice is that you should come into work if you feel well enough and wear a mask, HOWEVER, I'm not allowed to order masks because there's no money and only clinical areas can have masks, which we are not, please don't come in until next week"
So, obviously I don't want to infect my colleagues but welcome to NHS reality. We are short staffed enough as it is without restrictions on PPE
Had both jags today. The Covid one first, which felt like something had "punched" my arm very hard. Didn't really feel the flu one after that. It was quite a queesy feeling so I sat in the van for the recommended 15 minutes before driving home. Arm is now a bit sore, but no worse than the previous vaccinations.
Had both of mine yesterday, didn't feel anything at the time though arm is a bit sore now!
I had both back in October no reaction and despite pretty much everyone where I work having some awful cold/flu bug over the last month I seem to have escaped it?
I'm also not sure why I qualify for the double jab but my surgery sent me a text inviting me to have it, it may be as I was my late wife's primary carer and once on the system that's it?
I had mine individually a week apart as the last time I had both together it was an unpleasant experience. The local pharmacy did the job and due to me being assessed as at risk it was free. Bonus was that one of my son's friends is the pharmacist so lots of chat whilst being in the chair.
