I've just caught Covid again, second time (first was Sep 2022) and both times it has floored me.
I realise that might be not unusual for many folk but as someone who has (now) only taken sick-leave twice from work in the last +30 years, both for Covid's, doesn't get other ailment's/cold's/flu's etc what is it about Covid that hits me so hard?
I'm fit, and always have been, just hit 60 and literally never get ill (except Covid...) - and when I compare myself to my colleagues, they seem to have more sick days than I have holidays.
Anyone medically/health trained with an opinion of why it hits me so hard, factual-based would be nice 🙂
it's genetics I think. I know some folk that are still suffering from fatigue from the initial infection, who were otherwise fit.Â
Putting aside obvious stuff like age and underlying health conditions, the short, factual answer is that we don't yet fully understand why some healthy people just shake off Covid, and others are hit like a ton of bricks.Â
As above, there is likely to be a genetic element. Lots of interesting research out there, eg:

Certainly a lot appears to depend on your personal immune response to the virus.
I'm not sure the relationship between 'viral dose' at infection and severity has been confirmed by research, but it's possible you got unlucky in the way you picked it up.

Either way, I share your frustration, it's an insidious little bastard. Even two 'mild' infections have left a long hangover of issues for me.

Yes, after the first I found I just couldn't do multiple long rides in a week anymore, so got a light-weight EEB to help. It obviously worked as last year I had my biggest ever riding year with a longest day-ride of a 300k Audax.
