Myself and my other music mad mate are compiling a Spotify playlist of great cover versions. Any input to be had.
Dissapointlingly there are some songs noit available such as Arcade Fire doing 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' and Teenage Fanclub covering Like a Virgin and Bright Eyes doing Elliott Smiths The Biggest Lie (my all time favourite)

Off the top of my head:

Belle and Sebastian - Here Comes The Sun, Boys are Back in Town, I'm Waitin' For The Man.
Ben Folds-Tiny Dancer
The Flaming Lips- Bohemian Rhapsody, The Golden Age, Knives Out, Can't Get You Out Of My Head
Happy Mondays-Step On
Jeff Buckley-Hallalujah
Johnny Cash-One, Hurt, Bridge Over Troubled Water, In My Life, We'll Meet Again, I Won't Back Down
Bellowhead-I Want To See Bright Lights Tonight
The White Stripes-Jolene, I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself
The Clash-I fought the Law, Police & Thieves
Oasis-I Am The Walrus
Tricky-Black Steel
The Housemartins-Caravan Of Love
Aretha Franklin-Respect
Jimi Hendrix-All Along The Watchtower
Merry Clayton-Gimme Shelter
Blondie-Hanging On The Telephone

Discuss.

I find it utterly mesmerising.

Actuually there's a load of interesting ones on here:

Billy Bragg does disco? When his guitar comes in at 2:19 it's great.

Low - Blue Christmas (Elvis et. al.)

Porky Pig - Blue Christmas 🙂

Worth a fortune if you were ever to find a copy on vinyl! Super rare. I sent a copy on CDR out with christmas cards one year and a mate though it was a recording of me and my girlfriend.

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) - Erasure. A guilty pleasure, takes me back to Teesside Poly SU in 1986....

And this one of Travis doing Joni Mitchell. Lovely, and a nice story too, but probably not recorded anywhere other than the VH1 Youtube clip -

What's the name of that french group who do 70's/80's punk new wave classics in the style of french colonial cafe or cabaret type music?
I liked their version of Guns of Brixton
