So what books have you read cover to cover in one go. Thought of this earlier while looking for stuff for the Kindle and a friends Kobo. For myself it's The Rats, The Spear, Lord of The Flies and The Catcher in the Rye.
All I should say a very long time ago when I was a lot younger but I'd love to know what you've read that mean't sleep could wait.
And for anyone who might be wondering what is the greatest book of all time and who is the greatest author it's The Grapes of Wrath and John Steinbeck.
War and Peace.
Razzle.
The Grapes of Wrath and John Steinbeck.
close but no cigar.. It's Cannery Row and John Steinbeck
I honestly haven't kept track of books that I've read cover to cover..
the last was Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier..
Heart of Darkness.
Done a few Pratchet novels in one go, back in the day, don't get the time any more normally just 10 mins before I fall asleep....
white spider by heinrich harrer. Hannibal Tom Harris. Lord of the Rings, the two towers, JRR Tolkein. The Hungry hungry caterpillar (can't remember authors name)
MBUK, lots of pictures and adverts, and no big words.
Rad, GRRR
the old man and the sea
To kill a mocking bird. Pretty much every time i've picked it up i've read it cover to cover.
The White tiger
the hungry caterpillar.. just.
I can't remember, must be due to the wrath of grapes. 😳
flying scotsman the first time round
ultra marathon man
chris hoys autobiog - mostly cause i was stuck on a plane for 6 hours !
the hungry caterpillar.. just.
What happened at the end?
Various Tom Clancys
Would have read dave millar, racing through the dark cover to cover if i wasnt reading it on the commute!
Nothing since my pre-teen years. Oh, except "The Wilt Alternative" by Tom Sharpe, which i remember reading in one go when i was very poorly. Before then, plenty of Roald Dahl.
Heart of Darkness.
Astonishingly well written when you consider English was Conrad's 3rd language.
"The strange case of the dog in the night time".
Fascinating. Loved it.
"Day of the Jackal" was another.
A few...
I phoned in sick when I picked up Snow Crash. I started about 11 at night and finished about 4 or 5 in the morning. I read it again almost immediately.
I spent almost an entire weekend reading Cryptonomicon too.
The first time I read IT it was all I could think about. Read that in about 2 days with pesky work getting in the way.
In search of Robert Millar grabbed me too.
Puckoon by Spike Milligan is real quick cover to cover fun.
Agree with To Kill a Mockingbird too. One Flew over The Cuckoos Nest alway's goes quick aswell.
100 years of solitude, Marquez, is the sort of book you never want to put down, but just too long to read cover-cover in one go.
Lonesome Dove is a bit like that too, but even longer.
I nearly read the road in one go - compellingly bleak 😐
The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Finished at 3am, totally drained and choked up. Incredible book.
Edit: Whoah, coincidence - scaredypants you obviously either read my mind or also have impeccable taste. (Post wasn't there when I started writing mine)
yay - I never win races
(got blood meridian for my next grimathon)
The Road was the last cover to cover for me too. Weird.
Absolutely compelling book
