So, Sir Nigel of Farage declaimed today that we could do without German cars, French wine and Belgian chocolates and that we could get them elsewhere. Now, perhaps we could but how would life be?

Excellent local champagne.
Not fussed about the chocolate.

Almost as absurd as BoJo's Prosecco embargo hypothesis.

Now THAT'S "taking back control". Let's show the French we're "making Britain great again" by drinking Chilean wine instead.

I would be upset to not have a German car, but seeing as I'll never be able to afford a brand-new one, there's at least 10-15 years' worth of second hand ones in the pipeline to keep me going 🙂

That's a tonic wine though surely? 😀

Hahahahahahahaha

No.

I like my TT, I have not found another car that I enjoy driving as much in the price range. The same with wine; French may be variable quality, but there are wines out there that I have not drunk and I would not be willign to part with them.

As for swiss chocolate? What? No Milka? No Toblerone??? Is he mad?

Harry has it. **** 'im.

Though actually I tend to buy Spanish and Italian wines rather than French which I consider overpriced and of lower quality.

they are separated and have been for some time the press reported recently
I'd like to think she left him because he's an odious little shyster

I would cheerfully give it all up if someone would give me a day of repeatedly smashing farrage in the throat with a shovel as compensation. Odious little turd of a man

A few weeks back I noticed how little red French wine there is about. My local supermarket has a vast array of new world red wines and maybe 10pc is European.

...and that's in spite of a pretty crippling tarrif.

As a dedicated connoseur I always buy whatever full bodied New World red has a yellow special offer label on the shelf.

That was my immediate thought too, although apparently they live separately.

I wonder if that's the underlying reason for his whole campaign.

Maybe he forgets that even if we weren't part of Europe, we can still buy german cars, french wine or belgian chocolate

The rest of the world seem to be able to manage this just fine

Well, in the context, it wasn't pointless. It was in the European parliament, as a threat, in reference to export tariffs

Maybe he forgets that even if we weren't part of Europe, we can still buy german cars, french wine or belgian chocolate

Yes, but he was saying that we wouldn't

Californian wine maybe, bit they are not exactly happy with the way things are going at US HQ.

Can Americans make cars that can turn corners without rolling onto thier roofs now.. Genuinely interested.

I don't, wouldn't, and don't see why I should.

I would like to point out, however, that the car Nige is stepping in or out of might look like a golf buggy, but it is in fact a Mini autotest special, which is literally in a class of its own when it comes to autotesting. So, if I still autotested, and had the money, I would have a British car. And probably something from the EU to tow it to and from events.

Unlikely to be hit by a ban on French wine, so you should be OK.

Unlikely to be just french wines though, all European Wines would be effected. Same with swedish cars btw.

What a ****.

One of the biggest issues is Farage's (and others') failure to recognise and understand our ancient trade and cultural links with our Continental neighbours.

It would be a complete betrayal, desecration, and undermining of our history and our collective cultural life to think any of this was simply replaceable by trade with the USA or Australia or China.

And yet you raise his exposure by posting one of his quotes.

Genius.

How about ignoring everything the man has to say and he will go away, because he will no longer be deemed newsworthy, even by the media and news ****s.

The original Focus was available on both sides of the ocean. Haven't seen the newer ones though I don't think.

Indeed. And from the Welsh perspective the English can all f-off back to to Germany. Make Britain Welsh again.

I suppose a carefully chosen SEAT car could be a 'German car but not'? It doesn't solve the problem of it being from the EU, though.

At least Ford apparently make cars which are good for 200K miles now.

**** him and his small minded ideas.

In the world he spouts to his followers all we have to do is tell the EU to eff orf and Rover will rise from the ashes, Cadbury will be British again and we'll all drink warm brown beer, whilst spitfires fly over-head and we watch Cricket.

What he actually thinks? Who knows, he's just another former city boy, he only knows one way and it's do anything to get ahead.

They'll be dirt cheap after the Gibraltar war when we've occupied Spain.

I would enjoy seeing Nigel getting kicked in the goolies really hard

Not bothered about cars so I'll drive a Vauxhall, English wine is good but we don't have enough suitable terroir (yes, french word okay) and good enough climate to grow in sizeable quantities. chocolate we can make but where do the beans come from?

Wine should be a treat really and beer will become more of a staple. Cars should be built to last longer and we should all buy second hand (until Automated cars come onstream with proper service payment for usage )

Cars, I'm on only my fourth one in 25 years and none have been German, Japanese cars are great.

Wine, I prefer European wine to New World wine, but Gloria Gaynor was dead on.

Chocolate, completely unfussed.

EDIT:

whom?

Who? Somafunk I think

Yeh Somafunk is a chocolatier iirc

Although, the chocolatiers I've had conversations with get all their chocolate from Belgium.

Valrhona are supposed to produce the "best", used by 90% of Michelin star restaurants in UK apparently, they are French. The UK sales representative used to live next door, he used to give us loads of chocolate so my wife misses him greatly.
