Hi all,

We're off to the Cote d'Azur next week (staying between Cannes and St Tropez). Whilst we'll be spending some time in the campsite area, we do have a hire car so I'd like to pop out and do some sight seeing, mooching, general eating of baked goods.

I'd like to visit Verdon Gorge but nothing else on my radar. Apparently, St Tropez is expensive and not worth the bother? Might spend a few hours in Nice on the last day before we fly out.

We'll have two small children under five with us.

Cheers

Check out some of the gorges to cool off, for swimming and standing under waterfalls, and depending on spot getting away from crowds:

https://www.verdontourisme.com/en/bienvenue-sur-le-site-verdontourisme-com-2/activites/baignade/baignades-sauvages-dans-nos-rivieres/

Google gives you more links. The verdon is obv well worth a visit. Rent a pedalo and go swimming up the gorge.

Next week will be out of season, when I worked there the out of season periods were great. Binge on 50s and 60s French films and visit the iconic sites (Le Viager, Et Dieu créa la femme and many more). Walk around the coast to plage de Pampelone (if your children walk well if not drive) then swim around the yachts while contemplating the allied landings. You'll have gathered I like the place and walking around it is free.

I missed the "next week" bit so disregard escape the heat suggestions ☺️ . The coast is great with some v 3-dimensional driving but explore Provence a bit. If you're going to the verdon then visit Moustiers and climb up to the viewpoint over the village.

Not sure what I'd do in Nice with small kids. Buy them icies? I've forgotten what it's like... Bit off topic but there is great mountain biking all around.

Out of season the coast road will be drivable, St Tropez is a no go high season due to traffic but we did a pleasant boat trip from there removed link   15 euros to see all the expensive villas (al fayed's boa house and Brigitte Bardot's house)

Port Grimaud is a mini Venice and Grimaud itself is up on the hillside with castle ruins

Fairgrounds at La Foux and Frejus should be open and waterparks at Frejus and St Maxime (kids may be a little young, not sure)

Verdon Gorge is stunning but prob a 90min - 2hr drive away depending where you are on the coast (Cannes to St Tropez is 40 miles)

edit google "brigatine taxi bateau " for boat trip

Theole Sur Mer is a bit of a hidden gem, beach doesnt get too busy, nice for kids. Some nice gravel type riding up in the Esterel behind Cannes. Some nice view points up in the hills behind Cannes, there's a small via ferrata. Drive the other side of Cannes to Cap D'Antibes, some nice quiet beaches (Port Gallice) and a stunning coast road between Antibes and Nice.
