As titled really - selling my motor shortly and need to clean it up a bit.
Has anyone had this sort of work done before and can give me an idea of cost please? Work that needs doing:
1. 2 front arches rusting. One side has bubbled on outside and flaked off the paint work in an area about 50mmx10mm and the otherside is bubbling in equal size but hasnt flaked paint off yet...
2. 4 x 18" alloys need refurbing. I'd say light to medium damage...
The colour is a flat VW black, dont know if that makes a difference.
Cheers
The cheapest thing to do with the alloys would be to get them blasted and powder coated. You can probably get it done for no more than £100. It won't look as good as if they ave a proper full on refurb, but if you're just wanting them tidied up it'll be fine.
For the arches you could try something like Chips Away, they might have a crack at it for you.
A bodyshop will more than likely "tidy up" the arches, rather than fully removing and treating the rusty area. I suppose this might be acceptable if your selling it though....... 😉
I'd say with labour and paints your looking at at least £300. It might be worthwhile checking how much new wings would cost, a decent painter will be able to blend your old paint in with the new.
For the wheels its usually about £30 to £40 per wheel for a refurb, and it usually a 1 day turnaround. Some guys even do a mobile service.
I'd weigh the work needing done up with the actual resale price, might not be worth it.
Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna get a few quotes this week and work out if its even going to be economical. Anymore than £350+ then it probs wont be worth it.... Its always easier selling a motor in good nick tho!
