Brand new 510 shoes, first outiing and covered in dog excrement. I was so excited by the tread pattern when I took them out of the box - now, I am less so.
When has the universe dealt you a low blow?
Bought a house in a cheap part of the country and now my children will be cursed with a local accent.
Bought a very expensive pair of jeans once, massively disproportionately expensive compared to my income at the time.
Had them on for all of 5 mins when I jogged out the house to meet the leagues of young ladies that were bound to be beating a path to my door now I owned a pair of stupid money jeans only to trip and tear a huge hole in the knee, and this really wasn't one of those windows in time when torn knees in jeans was a 'thing'.
At least I learned a lesson - I really don't know much more about 'fashion' now than I did then, but I do at least have half a clue how well a pair of jeans is made by sight and feel. It wasn't hard to see afterwards that the only thing of value on them was the name of the jumped up tosser on the badge who had them knocked up in a sweatshop somewhere. Cheap material, if well dyed, made cheaply. £30 jeans from Next were better made.
Was born. Thought I had escaped the cycle.
Oi jekkyl - be careful what you're saying! From where you do your rides, you're vaguely local to us and we have local accents!
Not me but a friend popped a wheelie on his new (motor)bike and flipped it. Went up the road in a shower of sparks and plastic. He actually had tears in his eyes poor lad. From totally full of himself to the pits of despair in one go
@vickypea 😳 I meant errr that locals errr have a lovely accent and speak proper like.
I'm going to have to send you a random stranger strava request now.
edit: from your profile you're in cheshire which is a world away (in accent terms) from I live, as you were.
When I got my carrera krakatoa flex- none of your outmoded rigid stem nonsense for me, flexstem baby! Metallic purple with rapid fire shifters- indexed at both ends mother******.... anyway, I'm not usually a self-aggrandising sort of a dude but this once I was so full of myself- rode it to school and made a glorious entrance, went to do a big skid at the bike shed, wiped out the front wheel and landed on a dogshit.
Still got that bike. Still tainted.
Bought my first proper mountain bike. Paid for it and took it home. I spent 1/2 hour riding up and down the road and then decided to put it in the garage until I could get out for a proper ride.
I opened the garage door, wheeled in my new bike and leant it up against the wall, next to the 4 or 5 6' long lengths of 'angle-iron' stood against the wall.
As I turned and walked away - I heard a slow scraping noise. I turned back just in time to see a 6' length of 'angle-iron' slide slowly down the wall and land a hard edged blow on the top tube of my lovely new bike. BANG! dented the top tube, right on top, right in the middle.
Everytime I sat on that bike the first thing I saw was that f#cking dent 😥
Jekkyl- we are right on the edge of Cheshire but I've noticed you do a lot of the same riding routes as us. We're from the best bit of Cheshire not the posh bits 🙂
JAG - MemberBought my first proper mountain bike. Paid for it and took it home.
Rode it til your fingers bled
I had pretty much the same thing happen with my Camber- the day I decided to sell the horrible ****ing useless piece of shit, I rolled it into the garage and the heavy, rusty catalytic convertor off my car rolled off a shelf and scraped right down the fork.
Rode it til your fingers bled
I'm ashamed to say I instantly knew what you were on about there 😳
May parents never used to splash out on our footwear as kids, but one time I managed to convince them that simply must have a pair of HiTec Silver Shadows.
Got home and was so excited I wore them to give my dad a hand in the garden. Put a fork through them :'(
Thankfully the spike of the fork went between my toes, but straight through the trainers.
