Has anyone had a corneal abrasion? If so how did it heal for you and was their any impact on short term vision and did it come back?
Bit of background, I had an accident at home nearly 2 weeks ago and had an abrasion right in the centre of my eye. It’s healed with an extremely small scar apparently but I am struggling with blurred vision out of the eye in question and am very fearful there is long term damage.
Thanks
Not had a traumatic injury but have had x2 corneal ulcers from contact lenses wearing. Extraordinarily painful and took a around three weeks to a month to heal with a lot of blurred vision and photophobia. They have left scars apparently but no perceptible problems with vision. Difficult to reassure you but if it doesn’t settle down get some advice from an optician or better still an ophthalmologist.
Smacked my self in the eye with the corner of a cardboard box.
Scratched the cornea. Blurry vision for a week. Then fine since, treated with chloramphenicol for a week
Opthalmic doctor reckoned the eye heals itself really quickly due its cellular construction
I had a flake of dry paint fall behind my glasses when I was prepping an exterior wall, hurt like f... so went to doc. He put some drops in and an eye patch for 24 hours. As above, healed really quickly.
Really sensitive to bright light, or change in light for a few days.
No long term effects but I went to doc the day after it happened.
A long time ago a 21 year old me was living in the States for 6 months and "forgot" to take out my hard contact lenses after a fairly boozy night - cue sandpapered corneas from the dried out contact lenses!
Hurt like hell and I had to wear sunglasses for a couple of days due to the pain.
Fixed itself fairly quickly though - as I hope yours will.
(As above, the cornea can repair itself really quite quickly. I also had my eyes lasered about 17 years ago and that involved slicing open the cornea, that fixed itself quickly also)
I've experience of it...now need to put some ointment in my eye each night to stop the eye lid sticking to eyeball and opening it up again.
Mine was caused by the and of a branch getting under my glasses and dragging across my eyeball. Went to optician who dramatically announced I had a crater cut in my eyeball!
Sent me to eye doctor who sanded my eyeball smooth so it would heal properly but the after effects of the sanding were excruciating.
As long as I put the eye cream in each night I have no issues...
Thanks folks. I’ve been to the optician and ophthalmologist who are both slightly concerned about the length of time for the blurred vision to disappear. I’ve an extremely small scar but otherwise cornea is good apparently. Pretty anxious about it to be honest but nothing I can do except keep up the lubrication drops and also the ointment at night which is like Vaseline
I've had abrasive grit adnd steel splinters in my eyes plenty of times due to my job, you can see the scars from them if you look closely on the cornea.
No noticeable loss of vision, no lasting side effects, took less than a week to heal each time. That ointment which i used each time (chloramphenicol?) Is your friend, it keeps the eye moist and helps prevent the itching.
Worst thing is when you get a steel splinter and it scratches and cuts the inside of your eyelid, the itching and urge to blink drives you mental.
The blurred vision might be down to the ointment. If we are talking about the same stuff, its quite thick and of a stiff consistency and I noticed a slight blurring when I applied it. This would wear off as the day progressed, o am assuming it was due to the ointment spreading, thinning and getting diluted by tears, etc.
Stick to what the docs say though, you dont see them getting steel splinters in their eyes, far too clever .

Had exactly the same scenario whilst rescuing the dog who had wrapped his lead around the tree.
Left with a 5mm cut across. Felt like I had something in my eyeball. Was 15 years or so ago , but it sorted itself out fairly quickly from memory. I do remember they injected the eyeball with something and you have no option but to watch the needle go towards it ( though it blurs when it is really close)
That eye does tear up and run for no reason from time to time , but whether it’s linked I do not know.
