Got a family holiday booked for August, deposit paid but a big whack of the rest of it due next week, would you just pay next week or cancel now and lose the small deposit
You won't be going.
I'd lose the deposit.
I've just cancelled Portugal in June but don't think anyone will b going away this year. I normally go camping on bank holidays, can't c that either .
Did you take out / do you have travel insurance?
I'd give them a ring and see what they say.
If you don't have travel insurance I'd probably forfeit the deposit. Worst case it all blows over and travel companies are going to be desperate and you might get a good/better deal anyway. The alternative is you're unlikely to get travel insurance that covers it now!

Put the problem onto them. Tell them you still want to go but you're not willing to pay the balance until July. I bet they bite your hand off for that....
Got holiday insurance with our Natwest account been trying to get through to them since yesterday but line always engaged suppose lots of people with same issue or stuck abroad trying to sort themselves out.
Not a bad idea ringing the holiday company and seeing if they will let us pay the balance closer to August, can’t imagine to many people booking holidays at the moment
Don't pay.. plan to be at home for the next 3-4 months
if this shit is still going on by August then were all dead anyway.
Problem is whether the airlines and holiday companies can survive that long.
Assuming you bought a package, i guess fulfilling your agreement by paying the balance would mean the ATOL protection is still valid, which would entitle you to a full refund if they collapse?
money will not be worth anything in the imminent dystopian reality anyway so may as well pay up?
I've got flights booked for Corfu on 28th May, waiting for Easyjet to cancel them so I can get my money back *not holding breath*
We paid for a holiday in September and insured it with Yellow Jersey at the start of the year before all of this really kicked off.
Just because you have insurance, don't assume you're covered. Seems like we've been stitched up by them. If we were to go against FCO advice, we're not covered but they currently claim we're not covered for FCO saying we shouldn't go.
Are you sure? BBC carrying headlines that 'non-essential' travel to Europe is to be avoided.

FCO advice not to go to xxxxxx or general government advice not to travel? (as of lunch time I believe they're the same but yesterday fco advice was quite specific?)
I'm guessing they're going to push you to wait until very late before they'll accept the advice as grounds not to travel.
Genuinely interested as I imagine I'll be going through the same with yellow Jersey later in the year.
