[Closed] Corduroy, now acceptable in the 21st century, practical in fact?

Positively, definitely asking for a friend and this has nothing to do with me being asked if I want corduroy socks for Christmas.

WTAF? "The fabric is actually warmer as it traps air as insulation, so its actually practical for our walks on a Sunday afternoons".

Is she sh*ting me here? Genuine question guys.

Trouble is, I see those loops of nylon as potentially being quite good at insulating from the cold. I kinda get the logic as ive been using this kind of logic for some time to justify expensive bivvy purchases. Am I being gaslighted (gaslit?) though?

It seems valid but it's CORDUROY! Please fact check me.

Corduroy is cool fam.

It's not just geography teachers now.
Not sure about the technical properties you mention but it makes sense I suppose.

Must dig out my troos 🤔

I’m wearing cords right now whilst sipping coffee and typing this. I’m really crap at geography too!

TopTip. Save money on expensive corduroy trousers by sellotaping lengths of spaghetti to a normal pair of trousers.

If flip flops are called flip flops because of the noise why aren't cords called ver vers?

Coincidentally, it popped up on the Viz Facebook page the day before yesterday. I doubt I’d have remembered it otherwise.

Wait.... OP said SOCKS? corduroy trews, fine. but SOCKS?!?!
Surely too stiff, socks cant be corduroy, heavy canvas, denim, or chain mail for the same reason.

although thinking about my old zealskinz. hmmm

From what I can see, "corduroy" socks are just ribbed socks. Not socks made of corduroy.

We sell socks too - https://hebtro.co/product-category/sock_range/

I've always been partial to a nice pair of cords, and never been ashamed of that fact. I've even been complimented on my sartorial taste. Honest.

Probably wouldn't wear them for bivvying though. If I ever decided I need to sleep in a ditch any time, I'd probably wear some of my lined trousers.

Good enough for James Acaster and Steve Mc Queen.

That isn’t James in the pic with Steve.

That lady is loving the sweet, soft texture of Steve’s cord jacket. You too could be a hit with the ladies if you embrace the cord.

Bought myself a corduroy shirt recently, from Next I'm afraid (sorry Brant.)

My coat has a fleece lining, never occurred to me that this combination would act like velcro, it was a two man job to get my arms out of the coat! 🤣

Corduroy never went away! Have several pairs of corduroy trousers, topped with a fleece plus walking socks meaning never complaining of the cold. Join the toasty set Poopscoop.

My teenage daughters (pre-covid, obvs) love trawling all the charity shops searching for nice vintage clothing. They've got it down to an artform

Binnerette number 1 recently found me a rather nice Ralph Lauren corduroy jacket which she spent the princely sum of nine quid on. Its rather lovely and I wear it all the time. Now I've turned 50 I think I'm definitely into life's corduroy phase 😀

Two thoughts occur:
1. Come back when it's crumpled.
2. That's unfortunately probably not how I'd look in the same outfit.

Oh and...

3. White socks! (Please don't tell me white socks have somehow crept back...)

I once wore cord jeans and a cord western-style jacket, Levi’s natch. That was fifty years ago, I feel no particularly desire to start wearing it again.

Double cord? That sounds potentially worse than double denim

Beat me too it footflaps. Those trousers are way too short.

@binners - If you’re 50 are you going to have leather patches sewn on to the elbows?

Have to confess I have one…..

I had one until it rained. I realised there is a fundamental flaw with wearing a straw hat in the British climate.

Cords however - lovely and warm in my unheated home/office.

I also have a very nice panama hat.

Used to wear it way before the hipsters and definitely before every suburban tryhard had a crappy one from River Island.

I used to be quite a dapper motherflipper, when I think about it.

4. The legs are too short…..

His leg is bent, when straight they will sit right. You really don’t want a trouser break when wearing corduroy trousers as part of a suit.

They’re half mast! Is a trouser break like a beat break?

I have a pair of pink cords from Howies. I love them. I may be deeply uncool.
