Ancient flymo is on its last legs. looking for a cordless battery mower and strimmer. to use same battery.
Any user recommendations as there are conflicting views online. I'm sure STW will clarify what's best
Makita do both. Not used either but am a massive user of loads of other battery stuff.
Got a dewalt strimmer as I have dewalt batteries. It’s as good as a low end petrol version - cord only is the only drawback, I like it. 5ah battery lasts about 20 mins.
It’s the batteries that cost so if you have an existing collection then see what you can get that is compatible 👍
We've got a Viking mower and Stihl strimmer. They use the same battery. I think the Viking stuff is branded Stihl now. Both are excellent. Good quality and work well. Battery is the way to go for garden tools. Makes life a lot easier and it's much quieter and better for the environment than petrol.
I've just bought Ryobi mower and strimmer. ONE+ batteries work with both. Good value and seem really well made. Very quiet and not too expensive.
My ryobi One+ 36v strimmer nuked itself today. One of the motor brushes sheared off. It’s done nearly 8 yrs so I’m probably just going to buy another.
They do some pretty hard testing of the Makita stuff here.
Got the Makita mower. Works well for smaller even lawns. Use a 6mAh battery (needs two). Not used the strimmer. Got lots of makita stuff so makes sense.
I got a Lidl one as it was good value and you get a three year warranty if it turns out to be rubbish. I've been really impressed, battery lasts for over 20 minutes and feels really solid.
My dad recently bought a Stiga mower and strimmer and has been very impressed with it. I believe mountfield are part of the Stiga group.
I have the makita one 36v. Really needs 5AH batteries as it eats 3Ah for breakfast. Power wise its probably 70% the power of a good corded Bosch, but fine on all but the most overgrown. Its heavy, but I can carry it. For Makita garden stuff it is typically better to get the 18v x 2 option. The 18v hedge trimmer is a toy compared with the 36v version, which is a beast.
Strimmer wise, i have a four stroke petrol makita which is brill, but if buying now i would get the 36v electric one.
I've got a Worx one, it's ok... does a decent size garden on a charge but could do with being a bit heavier. Strimmer is decent enough though.
