Hello. Simple question, though it's probably been asked before.

Can anyone recommend some cordless hair clippers that actually last more than a few months before the battery struggles to last a haircut? (Or anything else goes wrong.)

(Yes, I know mains clippers are better. But I want cordless ones.)

Ta 🙂

Wahl have lasted me years.
Cordless means cutting your hair in the shower. No itchy back and no sweeping up.

Do you know which ones? My current ones are cheapo Wahls (bought in a rush) and they've gone sour quicker than probably any clippers I've had before. I seem to recall they do one set of cordless that's highly rated, though…

9655 but it looks like they are discontinued. They would have been one of the cheaper options.
Edit. A quick look on eBay says they are still for sale/

Thanks. Still going, it seems. Slightly wary of cheap Wahls after this set, though 😕

Just get off to Boots or wherever and buy what's on sale. I've had mine for around 3 years now with no problems.

Mind, they don't have a lot to worry about up top to be honest. 🙁

Braun cruzer.

Edit- which on reading back sounds like a superhero or porn star!

I use a set of Remmington MB 4110 beard trimmers for my hair. The battery is just starting to show signs of loosing charge after six years of use once every two weeks. I will be replacing with the same model if I can't get a replacement battery.

Oh, they have a sliding guard so you have a much wider range of lengths to choose from, not just the standard guard lengths.

Had a Remmington for years. It still works.

I've recently bought a set of Wahl Cordless Super Tapers after making the mistake of buying a cheap set of Wahls from the supermarket. I can't comment on how long they last but they're night and day compared to the cheap set and the best clippers I've ever had.

this wahl page is the page you want. Got mine less than half price 4 years ago. Still like new.

Couldn't buy them in the shops for what I paid.

I've got a Remington ceramic thingy. Doesn't work at all unless I get the blades wet when it works fine. Wouldn't buy another one - I'm waiting for it to die but it refuses to do so.

I've got those Wahl ones on the amazon link, they have just turned 7. They're still going battery wise but the rubber coating is beginning to look a bit tatty

EDIT: "Features 45 minutes run time when fully charged" lol, yeah they don't do that any more but it does maybe three or four cuts before needing a charge

I had some Philips ones that I loved using as you didn't have to change the guard for different lengths. The guard was also articulated, so was easier to follow the contours of your head. But after 2 years the guard broke, which I replaced. Then a year later the mechanism broke:

Amazon link - Philips

To replace them I got the best buy from a Which review - these Babyliss ones:

Amazon link - Babyliss

They don't have the same list of features, but I'm hoping they are a little more robust. 18 months old now and doing fine. Both of them never had a problem with holding charge and both cut my hair just fine - not that I have complicated styling needs. Just make sure you go with ones with a Li ion battery. Some of the newer Philips and Wahl ones don't.

Edit:

The Amazon link for the Philips ones I had isn't correct. Those don't have Li ion battery. Here's the ones I had:
Amazon link - Philips Li ion

And here's the correct link for the Babyliss ones

^^^ the Philips ones above. I'm on my second set only because one of the guards broke after 3yrs and a replacement was half the price of a new one. Both are still working fine though. Bargain.

It's an easy job to replace them if you have a soldering iron.

This is my Remington ceramic one

[img] [/img]

Actually I'm modding mine so they'll take normal nimh AAA rechargeables for when it inevitably shits the bed again in a years time.

But this is what it has in it as standard

Braun cruzer.

Heh, I had one of those. The motor seemed to have as much power as a mouse's fart and the comb broke the first time I used it. Sent it back. Maybe some of the Cruzer models are better, I don't know. But it was crap enough to put me off.

this wahl page is the page you want. Got mine less than half price 4 years ago. Still like new.

Ah! I looked for a UK source for the Five Star Magic Clip but couldn't find one. Thanks.

I confess I got an itchy finger and bought a Remington 4250 last night, but if that turns out to suck then I'm heading for the Magic Clip.

I had some nicky Clarke ones that were ok for about £25. The battery did eventually start failing to hold charge but lasted a good 2 years or so.

Good question. I'm after one myself, for beard duty.

I bought a Wahl one from TX Maxx, ceramic blade. The battery went, it now lasts a few seconds.

I then bought a Remington one from TX Maxx. The battery went, it now lasts a few seconds.

My Mrs is a hair dresser and basically says if you want a proper good clipper thats reliable, get a wired one.

I had two ceramic Nicky Clarkes a few years back, they were the best clippers I've used except for the battery dying. Can't get them anymore though.

Yeah, you don't need to be a hairdresser, everyone who uses clippers knows that. See original post 🙂

I've had the same wahl balding corded clipper for getting on for 10 years now. Use it on my head and face as it cuts sufficiently close to keep me tidy. It is a pain having to trail an extension into the bathroom tho - do any of the cordless ones cut as close as the balding ones?

Corded is no use to me, there's no power in the bathroom (well, other than the light fitting).

I do mine over the kitchen sink, with a convenient plug not too far away. The the key to avoiding prickles is to stick your head (and nothing else) under the shower after.

Any of the cordless recommendations come with a grade 8 and 7 attachment?

Grade 8 or 7? That's not a haircut!

I got some from TK Maxx a couple of years ago, they're still going strong. Will check the brand tonight.

Any of the cordless recommendations come with a grade 8 and 7 attachment?

Hippy

I used a Remington one and then a Nicky Clarke one, neither of which were very good. I saw a £15 one in Lidl a few years ago which has been brilliant so far.

Cordless are better for holidays.
I could never get my plug in clippers to run at full speed on the European mainland.
Lighter too.

The 8 is for on top. 2 on the sides. I look like a microphone if I do grade2 all over....

That's just showing off. I'd hate to think how I'd look if I tried to grow the whispy bits on the top to a grade 8.
