I think we all can agree (🤣) that Fox’s Jam and Cream are better than Jammy Dodgers in just about every aspect.
Are there other examples where the usurper is better than the original?
Mazda MX5 - a classic British small sports car
Good choice.
Suspicious minds by the Fine Young Cannibals better than Elvis
Pierce Brosnan & Rene Russo in the Thomas Crown Affair
Bettie Davis Eyes
Neither of which are a patch on...
Even though not exactly the same, I'm tempted to say Ripple vs Cadbury Flake - better chocolate, and less crumbly. But I could murder either of them.
I thought Cadburys' Aztec bars were better than Mars bars. But they were only made for a brief period and discontinued in 1978.
Aldi waterproof socks are far better than Sealskinz and half the price
Pierce Brosnan & Rene Russo in the Thomas Crown Affair
No argument from me there!
WRT beans....
Edeka (German supermarket). Own brand are much better than Heinz. Heinz just taste so sweet and artificial after Edeka's.
@ElShalimo agreed. GF's old MX5 was a hoot compared to my mates old MG (as in it worked and was reliable).
In this house, beanz don't mean Heinz, Branson ones are way better. I'm assuming Heinz are the OG, but could be wrong.
Dickie Davis
When I was a kid I always confused him with Des Lynam.
Image search reveals in this case, the original was better. Des looks rather unkempt.
I rather like Branston beans. I lived off Sainsbury's own brand at uni in the 90s. Much better than Heinz which was always far too sweet

Neither of which are a patch on…
Marty Feldman Eyes
I rather like Branston beans.
I did a side by side test last week on two slices of toast. Compared to Heinz, the Branston beans are denser and the sauce is thicker and stickier. Definitely better.
In this house, beanz don’t mean Heinz, Branson ones are way better.
Records, Broadband, Banking, Airplanes and now beans. Is there anything that guy can't turn his hand to?
⬆️ oops. 🤣
Seeing the mention of Dickie Davies further up has remined me of one of my favorite anecdotes - listening to a radio phone in quiz one afternoon the contestant was asked to name a famous TV sports commentator. She was struggling to get an answer so the DJ said "I'll give you a clue. Something you suck". The answer he was looking for was Murray Walker. "Oh I know" she exclaimed, " Dickie Davies"!!!

A spoonful of Marmite in a lot of things improves them. Chilli for example…
RATM’s version of Renegades of Funk
Nirvana : Man who sold the world.
Suspicious minds by the Fine Young Cannibals better than Elvis
But the Elvis version was already a cover. Here's the original:
And some old living room guitarist bloke making an acoustic attempt:
On topic, Marshall's JTM 45 copy of the Fender Bassman.
RATM’s version of Renegades of Funk
Also their version of Kick out the jams.......M*** F*
Nirvana : Man who sold the world.
Not a patch on Lulus original.
Hurt the Johnny Cash version. Better than Nine Inch Nails version.
Hoover were falling behind in the hoovering game ever since the offshoring Brexhypocrit started selling the dual cyclone bagless stuff, now they barely seem to get a mention when people are looking for a new hoover.
Oh dear, it’s turning into another I’ve-got-no-taste-in-music cover versions thread 😂
Lidl’s Twix copy, the cunningly named Mister Choc Caramel & Biscuit. So much tastier than the original, even after Lidl shrunk it.
Caterham 7 > Lotus
Not really copy cats. Caterham were a Lotus dealer and took over 7 production when Lotus stopped.

Omani.... See also soy sauce.
Toyota Land Cruiser is much better than a Willy’s Jeep
And a Dog is much better than a Toyota land cruiser 😉
Not really copy cats. Caterham were a Lotus dealer and took over 7 production when Lotus stopped.
And a Dax Rush is better than both!

Oh duck off music ranker.
But tropicana isn't an original anything?
Bettie Davis Eyes
Neither of which are a patch on…
Marty Feldman Eyes
Or Dickie Davis’ Eyes… 😏
Erm...
New England.
New South Wales.
New Caledonia.
Rory Bremner.
The Pogues' 'Dirty Old Town' is much better than Ewan McColl's. The Stones' 'I Wanna Be Your Man' is much better than the Beatles' version.
Waitrose Essential Malted Wheats are a million times better than Shreddies.
Omani…. See also soy sauce.
Umami?
Sainsbury’s Sausage and Beans are much better than Heinz Sausage and Beans

Cotic Soul > Kona Cinder Cone
Much as I love an old steel Kona…
Avatar - it's just Dances with Wolves with big blue people and spaceships
CDs at £1 for 4 are the best value ever but treat them like your best china, my records and Rega 3 as great as they are attract dust and crackles but looks great in the corner. The Marantz 50se from '91 still as good as ever
With my duff ears CDs over vinyl
The definitive soul version
Loads of cover songs:
Woman In Love by the Bluetones far better than the Barbara Streisland/Gibb version (unsurprisingly really)
I Put A Spell On You by the Toadies > Jay Hawkins
A Little Respect by Wheatus > Erasure
Think the Mission did a version of Dream On > Aerosmith
Heard It Through The Grapevine by Credence > Gladys Knight / Marvin Gaye
Three's Company was less terrible than Man About the House.
The new Battlestar Galactic was much better than the original.
Hendrix's All along the watch tower better than Bob Dylan
I'm going with Sinead O'Connor
vs the original
Sinead Lohan's cover of Dylan's To Ramona is infinitely better on every metric.
Sinead, like velvet for the ears -
Bob, like a dentist's drill -
Sia has done a cover of The Pretenders improvement on Ray Davies' hit I Go to Sleep, which is marginally better, IMO.
YMMV, but you'd be wrong
The new Battlestar Galactic was much better than the original.
Yes, I'm about 5 episodes into rewatching it, it's a really good show.
Are cover versions "copycats" if they're doing it in a different style?
🤐
Cds > vinyl in every possible way.
Battlestar X2 (even if the ending was shite)
Wall St Crash: "Watch me screw people's futures".
Brexit or Truss's Mini budget: "Hold my beer".
Rome > Athens
Mike McMahon got the job of drawing Judge Dread because Carlos Ezquerra - who designed the character - didn't want to do it. McMahon is much better.
Shakespeare 'borrowed' most of his plots - he seems to be quite well regarded.
Controversial one here: The Magnificent Seven is better than The Seven Samurai (both great though).
The Pet Shop boys sang it better than Willie nelson.
