I've got a couple of days free in Copenhagen at the end of the week.
Does anyone have suggestions for fun things to do? Currently I'm planning to get the train up to Louisiana MOMA to see the Jeff Wall expo.
And any restaurant recommendations, given that I'll not be booking massively in advance?
Hire a bike and pootle around.
Louisiana is well worth it but if you've got time on the same day get the train a little bit further up to Kronborg to see the castle and new maritime museum. The restaurant at the Louisiana is good.
56 degrees is a really good restaurant - we went on a Sunday when it's a fixed price (including drinks) set menu with massive communal tables, not quite sure how it's set up in the week.
+1 for "hire a bike and mooch"
These guys are great http://baisikeli.dk gave me, wife and daughter half a day free hire when our plane was delayed.
Sea Kayak was a great way to see the city from the water - Kayak Republic
Just me an an instructor/guide though I think the usual sessions are more like 8.
Both design museums worth a visit.
Restaurant - favourite meal was at the Kulturhuset Islands Brygge. Kind of a locals only restaurant in an arts centre next to the open air swimming pool. Food was good but it was mainly good just being in less of a tourist magnet location and the other diners were an eclectic crowd.
The little mermaid is very small and a bit strange 😆 waterfronts are great. Botanical Garden is impressive but not everybody's cup of tea.
As said just mooch about, there is a tower you can climb which gives great views of the city the Bridge and across to Malmo. Visit places Saga and Martin went to.
The place is full of beautiful women, yes I am shallow but you will see what I mean.

Very true, an to be fair countless handsome dudes too, according to my wife. It's hard not to be a tiny bit envious of the Danish!
A wander in Christiania should be on you list too for an alternative viewpoint on the danish and the city.
I posted this (or something like it) a while ago:
I would now add:
Cocktails at Lidkoeb - even for CPH standards, the clientele are beautiful
Food at Oel og Broed http://www.theguardian.com/travel/2014/jul/19/copenhagen-city-guide-day-in-vesterbro

As others have said, Copenhagen is not really a place for specific attractions - of course there is Tivoli, Blue Planet, various museums (Louisiana is great, even with kids), Christiania but mostly there are little squares and streets, places to have a coffee or (better) a beer, and watch the world (ok, I mean the girls) go by, or neighbourhoods to explore. I've been here 5 years and I'm still discovering new places to see.
(The notion that Malmø is nicer, in any way, is just wrong. There are some nice shops for Christmas gifts and a load of new housing projects.)
Just to append some notes I sent someone else:
Marmorkirken - big domed church thing with stairs to go up
Christiania - hippies and drug dealers and university professors. Touristy but interesting resto - "Spiseloppen"
- walk by water
- nearby spiral walk round spire of church - not for vertigo sufferers - Vor Frue Kirken
Old houses round area towards Kastellet
Carlsberg - old factory, occasional cultural events, nice "secret" garden (Akademiets Have). Obligatory museum (visit in reverse order to avoid paying ) Nearby old workers houses, Humleby, where Nanne Birk Larsen was held captive !! (house redone by Thijs )
Pisseranden (piss gutter) area round Studiestrade etc. - shops, cafes, bars
Lakes
Statens Museum for Kunst - nice building, see Hammershøi paintings
Tivoli ???
Shopping for clothes (esp girls) - Kronprincessegade etc - "Copenhagen Catwalk"
Pricy restos (need reservations):
Gronbech and Churchill
Fiskebaren
Radio
Nørrebro:
Jægersborggade - we went to Coffee Connection, also Manfreds Wine Bar, Relae and others. Nearby Stefansgade - Mikkeler beer, ice cream shop, Ricco's cafe, drug dealers in park
Elmegade - small shops and cafes, and beer at Ølbaren
Ryesgade - boutiques, antiques, Nørrebro Bryghus pub&resto
Gritty neighbourhood
Vesterbro
Istedgade - walk away from central station. Sex shops and then boutiques and cafes! Mikkeler's pub on sidestreet.
Galleries at old meat processing area, exhibits depending on date. Cafes and restos.
Cafe at top of Illums department store has terrace w views
Also resto at top of Post Museum
Sky Bar at the top of Bella Sky hotel - nice lunches, location at the finale of The Bridge II.
Day out to Louisiana museum, and to look at small village nearby
Day out on bus to Dragør - picturesque village but maybe pain to get there.
tick, headed there in June.
must be a June thing, us too.
If you're there for a few days I'd also recomend a train trip to Malmo; cracking little city, and you get to go across the cool bridge
Carsberg Brewery, obvs, Tivoli Gardens, Danish design museum, boat trip along the canals and Christiana.
A wonderful city, take lots of money, more than you think you'll need.
Enjoy.:)
Go to Mikeller Bar in Viktoriagade. Try a glass from every tap.

ahhh * * *ing * that kayaking thing looks brilliant but I don't think I'll have enough time.
June for me too - Oslo, fjords, Stockholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Brusels, train home.
