Keith suffers something rotten in the warmer weather and gets over hot on even fairly short walks. Family life rather gets in the way of simply walking him at dawn and dusk so I'm wondering about these cooling jackets you can buy.

Anyone on here use such a thing?

Quite a few people we know use Easidri , they fit well and don't fall off when the dogs are moving. We've got a couple of cool mats that our dogs like . Try Groomers online or splendid pets , plenty on fleabay .

Go walking near water. It's hard to get my collie out of the river when it's warm.

The only water round here is the Thames and we'd have to drive to it plus the banks are generally quite high making entry and exit problematic.

Edit: above image suggests the missus worked out scraping the image off Flickr.

Dogs don't use cooling jackets, they use cooling pants.

Mostly melted as they'd been wrapped around a horses legs for half an hour previously 🙂

We now use cooling boots for the horse, seem quite good, you soak them in a bucket of water to activate them. (not cos it gets hot, cos its an 'athlete' so I suppose its the equivalent of sitting in an ice bath)

We have bought a ventlock for the van, so the dog can stay in there. Crack the front windows a bit and so far it has been ok.

Never heard of cooling jackets for hounds, sounds like a wind up, but apparently is an accessory to take a serious look at 🙂

Ruffwear do them, thought about one for ours on longer days in the hills in summer:

Seems there are plenty out there. Will have to break out the tape measure to find a fit. This might be a partial answer to the tennis balls he loses when he goes to lie in the long, damp grass to cool off.
