Coolest President Ever

Crikey! 😯

Yes, because when we've got the prospect of someone so thin-skinned and egotistic as Trump, it's great to see a president who doesn't take himself too seriously.

And I don't think we can underestimate the effect of having a leader of the world's most powerful country who is black. That was game-changing.

No..... but it doesn't hurt, and personally I think he's done a bloody good job in the teeth of furiously entrenched opposition.

I strongly suspect that history will judge him kindly.

If you want to be judged kindly ... do the minimum and history will judge you kindly.

Most of the time, I only have a vague idea what you're talking about.

I still believe in an independent Scotland, in the EU.

Edit: nah, he was just preppy - a Tommy Hilfiger ad isn't cool.

😆 It's all capitalist!

Does that mean Scotland will jump from a hot pan into a hot wok?

(gaining independence from UK but becoming an even smaller player in EU)

Freedoomm!

(got it! I need to cook minced pork with tofu !)

Obama is a cool president, sadly I get the feeling he won't be remembered as a great president, not due to anything he has done, but rather what he was not able to do mainly due to not have control of both houses for a good chunk of his presidency. I sometimes feel that America does not deserve him as a president.

Yeah, it's a pity but also encouraging for the future that the US system means that the White House is the weakest of the three branches of government.

Indeed, Obama deserved better. It just demonstrates a system which doesn't desire change. We seem to have followed suit.

I'm not sure it is a system that doesn't want change. You just now have LOTS of interests with the money to influence decisions rather than just one or two. Plus those interests know where to spend that money. It's difficult to know how to deal with.

and lets face it, that's why this video is out there. Someone has worked out the value of this particular piece of social media. But it is great and they nearly never made it through the back door line without cracking up. Some things are universal

No he didn't, that is the system. I know plenty of Americans who vote one way in the Senate and House elections and the other way in the Presidential - they like the tension because they think only the best ideas will get implemented. Obama, who gets a very easy ride in our media, burnt alot of bridges to get his medical reforms through (despite them being watered down), whether that was the right thing - time will tell. The best Presidents compromise to get things done - Clinton and Reagan are two example of Presidents who were effective at this.

How exactly do you think he could have compromised his way to getting health care through then?

It's interesting that you should offer Ronald Reagan as an example of one of the "best" presidents.

It is now widely accepted that Ronald Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's during his presidency.

Ronald Reagan's speeches showed the beginnings of Alzheimer's before diagnosis

Ronald Reagan had Alzheimer's while president, says son

Indeed the fact that he sounded like the slightly confused elderly relative which everyone loves and respects, even if they're a bit dotty, appears to be an important part of his appeal with US voters.

So if a man without his full mental capabilities provides an example of one of the better US presidents then it raises interesting questions concerning who holds real power and influence in the US.

This might provide a clue :
