I'm of an age where cool is a word I still use, was debating with the good lady who the coolest person of all time is. Hard to define cool but I think people know who is and isn't.
I'm going for Clint Eastwood just because. She's gone for Bob Marley.
Eric Cantona. Cool enough to royally take the piss out of himself in Looking for Eric, and end up coming across even .. erm... cooler!
But you're just a man....
I am not a man! I am Cantona!!
Bill Hicks or Jimi Hendrix
Still Steve McQueen for me. Just everything about him.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes in there for me.
coolest person of all time
Definitely Steve McQueen.
Erm...
It's me.
Matt Le Blanc
Easy. Mohammed Ali
His father, William Terence McQueen, a stunt pilot for a barnstorming flying circus, abandoned McQueen's mother six months after meeting her. His mother, Julia Ann (née Crawford), was allegedly a rebellious alcoholic prostitute.
Steve McQueen. Surprised OP has to ask!
Donald Sutherland
Still Steve McQueen for me. Just everything about him.
This.
There lived a certain man in Russia long ago
He was big and strong in his eyes a flaming glow
Samantha Fox
Ed Moses
I win.
Tom Waits
Good call on Ago, totally agree with that one. Don't know why but never thought Steve McQueen was that cool, personally thought bullitt was over rated as well.
Steve may be cool but the coolest, highly unlikely as he's an actor and for me, by default, that removes all possibility of taking the title. Acting is just not that cool.
Sir Ranulph Fiennes is a very good shout. Seth Morrison (Skier) is pretty cool but for me the title would have to go to Laird Hamilton; surfer, windsurfer and general all round awesome person.
Think we've all missed out CG though??
Cedric Gracia
EDIT: haha! snap dandax.
Lionel Blair
Man's man = McQueen.
The Wife just said Paul Newman, with Redford as a close second.
As for the coolest human being. Jack Johnson. Surfer, musician, environmentalist, philanthropist and the nicest bloke you will ever meet.
Trevor
Lofty from Eastenders, closely followed by Steve McQueen.
Prince Philip.
Jack Johnson is a good shout. Married his high school sweetheart and they refuse to release any public information on their 3 kids. I hate him even more 😉
Surfmatt
Richard Francis Burton - when your wikipedia descriptions starts:
...geographer, explorer, translator, writer, soldier, orientalist, cartographer, ethnologist, spy, linguist, poet, fencer and diplomat.
You know you're in man crush territory.
James Hunt
Walt Disney, because as we speak he is cryogenically frozen awaiting a cure for the illness that killed him.
In my mind at this moment?
Laurent Fignon
Anyone who dies early due to booze, drugs is definitely not cool.....
And on that basis l say....
Keith Richards.... rocking for 50 years
Right now? Probably Elon Musk for being as close to a real-life Tony Stark as possible.
Say it with me: "Leonard Cohen".
Mods, please close the thread now.
Sir Ranaulf to repeat. Does stuff, scary stuff. Really really scary stuff when you look at it more than a cold walk. Does it for the achievement, not the fame. Humble, charismatic, very British and a high achiever. Plus he chopped off his own fingertips with a saw in his shed.
I don't see what can better that on here so far.
I was going to say Douglas Bader but having just read a little bit more about him it seems he could be a right grumpy so and so.
+1 Sir Ranulph Fiennes it is then.
i always thought Jason Mcroy was pretty cool
A friend, knowing I live in a (touring) caravan with two rescue Greyhounds and six bicycles (plus, latterly, one kick scooter) reckons I am "ineffably cool".
I think I'm normal. It's everyone else who's wierd!
SQ.. no one else comes close to being a hollywood heartthrob, interntional racing motorcyclist, le mans car racer.. chose to fight the big C with some weird homeophatic stuff (sadly unsuccessfully) no one else has or will come close but reaching for the podium.. barry sheene.. james hunt.. neil kinnock ( just checking you read all the way through..)
Brendon Cole Strictly Come Dancing
Stan Collymore
Chuck Yeager for being the first person to fly through the sound barrier.
As for guitarist, Johnny Maar or Hendrix
When I was a kid I thought Cozy Powell was pretty cool.
Surfmatt was awesome, not "cool"
Has to be Steve McQueen. On my list of people (dead or alive) of who to have round for dinner, he remains in the number one place.
Fred Dibner.
You're all ****in' wrong!
Dean Martin - end of thread!
Binners
Noah.
+1 James Hunt.
what about the coolest woman?
Caitlin Moran
what about the coolest woman?
S****s...
McQueen...on the moto crosser with his toothbrush in his back pocket.
Kimi Raikkonen
Like James Hunt only he likes the odd ice cream.
Captain Oates was cool
...geographer, explorer, translator, writer, soldier, orientalist, cartographer, ethnologist, spy, linguist, poet, fencer and diplomat.
Needs Raconteur for a full 'set'.
Back to OP, Bryan Ferry is pretty high up along with Sheene.
Lemmy!
Jack Swigert - i don't even like turbulence never mind thousands of miles above the earth.
The bloke who did that mental highest parachute jump ?
Clint Eastwood.
Doug Scott
Another + for Ranulph Fiennes here & another for Giacomo Agostini (but only when he was riding for MV)
Man - Mike Hailwood, Graeme Obree
Woman - Caitlin Moran, Annie Londonderrie
If you doubt McQueen because he's an actor then stop right there.
McQueen was an avid motorcycle and car racer off screen. He also flew regularly.
During the great escape they struggled to find MX riders with enough skill to get what they wanted so they filmed McQueen chasing himself at one point.
And coolest woman?
Joan Jett for christs sake!

Clint Eastwood.
Wrong CG, it was Felix Baumgartner. Easy to get them confused though.
