Got in the car today after 3 hours driving in pouring rain yesterday and an alarm for coolant level popped up (nothing yesterday). Car is parked on a steep slope so had to move it.
Drove for 5 mins to get fuel & coolant at the garage. Looked at the level and it was lower than the mark by 1/2" or so. When I went to fill the reservoir there was a a hiss of pressure release and the level moved back up to in-between the two marks (high/low) perfectly. Garage concrete is flat.
Coolant was warm but not hot, looks clear and same pink as always. I checked the oil and it was hot but no cream.
Timing, fan, water pump & pulley was changed about 7 months ago (7500 miles).
In thought coolant expanded when hot? Is a hose bulging somewhere under pressure or do I have to worry about something else?
Thanks in advance.
Top it up a bit and keep an eye on it.
It could just be the slope was enough to trigger the sensor, so I wouldn't be concerned unless you're regularly having to top it up.
Which engine?
Hdi 1.6 engine, 218k miles, been running perfectly so far.
Uh, dunno - that's the PSA/Ford engine, it's done well to get to 218k miles.
Probably ask on the Berlingo forum.
Sounds like some air in the system. You'll want to bleed it properly and top it up.
