Hello!
My niece turns 16 soon and fancies a day out with me, poor lass 😬. I did suggest a nice piece of jewellery or some clothes like her sister but she didn’t want that.
She’s really into music, especially vinyl, so I’ll hit up a few record shops with her. She’s vegan and fussy but I’ll take her out somewhere for lunch too. Any suggestions? I’ve been to the Mosque Kitchen in Edi a few times, she might like that. She’s quite quirky and ‘alternative’ so likes places with a bit of character.
Also any other cool things to do with her? It’ll be midweek and I can meet her in Edinburgh or Glasgow easily enough.
Thanks!
Puti and Glasvegan are both really good for vegan food.
For vegan food
Hug and Pint
Stereo
Mono
I've heard very good things about Nova Pizza. I think it's a fully vegan pizzeria
If she likes tea then Tchai Ovna on Otago Lane (just down from Kelvinbridge Station) fits the bill. Quirky, vegan and decent tea (it's modelled on a Czech tea house).
Thanks folks 👍
Harmonium in Leith does great vegan food
obviously I have no idea what’s cool, but if you’re going to the Edinburgh mosque kitchen, then my daughter is forever going into Armstrong’s which is a vintage clothes shop further along Clerk Street. I guess something she may be into - she would certainly know.
Clothes shop a good shout gaus1777, cheers.
As has been said, Glasgow is amazing for vegan food:
Mono (vintage clothing store a couple of doors down)
Stereo
Hug & Pint
Glasvegan
Flying Duck (very cool subterranean bar)
Suissi (more dinner than lunch but incredible)
13th Note
Zilch Bakery & Deli
The 78
Armstrong's is a good shout. There's lots of trendy food places round there too like Paradise Palms which is probably the coolest vegan place in town. It's loads of fun.
Would they enjoy the modern art gallery? If so they may also enjoy the Talbot Rice Gallery which is in that bit of town (I've regarded most of the stuff there as total ****, but teenagers might love it).
Also: Surgeons' Hall Museums is an award winning Museum that is home to one of the largest and most historic pathology collections in the United Kingdom - is something she may or may not be interested in - but it is certainly unique and again close to the mosque kitchen.

Depending on her the camera obscura and illusions museum it's ace. It's in Edinburgh
Already mentioned but the 78 is pretty good for vegan food. And Stereo.

There is atleast three Armstrong's in Edinburgh.
The equivalent in Glasgow is Mr Ben's if it's still there which is right next to mono which along with being a vegan place is a record store I think the 13th note is vegan aswell but I might have made that up. There's a few bits and pieces round the trongate area.
I think the 13th note is vegan
If the 13th note is vegan, that must mean cocaine is vegan too 😆 😆 been to a number of gig parties etc there.
Actually I think it is or maybe vegetarian.
13th Note is a vegan place.
Cocaine is made from plants or something, right?
My girlfriend has a wee clothes boutique at the west end of the Grassmarket:
https://godivaboutique.co.uk/
They do local/sustainable designers at the front and vintage/second hand at the back - might be in her interest?
Kelvingrove Museum. Went there yesterday with friends. Haven't been for years. I forgot how brilliant the place was. Vegan options in the cafe too.
If you are in the West end (Otago lane), new and second hand stuff.
I had no idea that was still there, I assumed it had been shut down when they built the flats.
Good shout.
Weirdly enough Dennistoun is apparently super trendy these days so you could take her there for some hipster brunch or something.
I like Strange Brew in the southside for that though. If you're in the west, in Partick Kaf does very very good coffee/bread/cakes but I think it's takeout only these days.

Dennistoun is where all the Glasgow Uni students ended up after the gentrification of the west end.

I think you'll find that it's where the Glasgow uni students went after the Strathclyde students paved the way.
