Was in the supermarket today and picked up some Henderson’s Relish. I have had cheese on toast topped with Henderson’s Relish today and I have to say I find Worcester Sauce better…
It must be really rank then coz worcs sauce is foul stuff
love em both on cheese on toast.
Love them both. Henderson’s better on eggs, W’shire better for cheese on toast. It’s the anchovies that makes the difference.
"Worcester sauce?
That sh1ts no God for you...
...Tastes like f****n glue
a drop o' Hendos"
I think Peaty is a brand ambassador for Henderson’s.. be very careful!
Surely only controversial in Yorkshire?
I think there is a reason its only really sold there.
Having lived in Sheffield for many years I keep a bottle in stores at all times, but if I'm honest - it's underwhelming. This is an opinion I keep from the natives. Can you buy it all over the country then? Thought it was a local relish for local people.
Henderson’s better on eggs
Tha knows!
As controversies go that must be just above butter on toast.
I'm not from Sheffield so Worcester for me 😁
TBH , just bought a new bottle today and it seemed a little off the pace compared to normal, shock horror !
Have I accidentally picked a bottle that was intended for 'Darn Sarf' where the shandy drinkers live ?
I picked mine up in North Birmingham. Maybe it’s a soft version for south of Yorkshire!
I'm originally from Worcestershire and now live in Sheffield, Hendos is best!
Parents and all relatives were Sheffield folk, even though my early years where in Cumbria, Henderson's was always used for pies pasties stews etc. When we trekked down to Sheffield every 3 months or so to see family, special effort was made to bring home half a dozen bottles of Hendersons. That was in the 70's when it was very much only available in Shef.
These days, I'm a sinner! Prefer the stronger Worcester sauce. On everything so dear wife seems to think. Poor deluded southerner.

No stronger argument in favour of Hendo's/against Worcestershite can be made. Case settled. Also, it is supreme poured into a gravy-filled Yorkshire Pudding.
The comedian Tom Wrigglesworth said of Henderson's Relish that while outsiders think the condiment is Sheffield's answer to Worcestershire sauce, Sheffielders think it is the answer to <i>everything</i>.[7]
From wiki. And quite true.
We have to take it up to Newcastle when we visit my daughter and her boyfriend who’s not from New York City, he’s from Rovvrum.
I was most impressed when hello fresh recipe boxes started arriving with little miniatures of hendos.
I tried it for the first time a year or so ago. Tastes like Worcestershire Sauce and is vegan. Works for me.
No love for Lancashire Sauce? I'm expecting Binners along shortly, given that it's produced about ten yards from his house.
Worcester Sauce is probably better on cheese on toast (though I prefer mine unadulterated) but Hendos is brilliant on a meat pie.
Found out it's on sale in my local Waitrose in Bristol after ordering a couple of bottles on-line. Probably slightly prefer Worcestershire Sauce, despite being a born and bred Yorkshireman (Leeds not Sheffield, so never experienced it when I grew up, whereas I was used to a good slug of Lea & Perrins particularly in tomato juice).
Hendos is bloody marvellous.
I'm actually a Lancastrian, but often undertake missionary work across the Pennines.
Those ugly, tightfisted inbred Yorkshire weirdos occasionally get something right.
No time for that soft, southern nonsense from Worcestershire.
Leeds not Sheffield, so never experienced it when I grew up
Or decent rugby, beer, music, football, genetic diversity etc.....

They are both just cheap imitations of this...
You're from Cheshire, aren't you?
, W’shire better for cheese on toast. It’s the anchovies that makes the difference.
Oh……dear…..
I never knew WS contained anchovies 🤭
It’s been my secret ingredient in the veggy cottage pie I make for the wife for a few years now……..ooops

Yup. There are vegan versions but honestly, Hendo's is closer to L&P's than most of them.
For the win

As a veggie I reluctantly have the inferior Hendos
I don't know if it's my ageing taste buds, or is it's been diluted, but Hendos doesn't taste as good as it did when I was a kid.
Took some to some friends in Worcestershire though and they approved
Herderson's seems like dilute L&P to me. Other than needing to use more (and it's much cheaper which makes up for that), perfectly acceptable alternative.

It’s great in cottage pie, including when made with Quorn mince. Yummy. Depends on why you’re cutting out the meat though I suppose. Despite the warnings of Futurama, I still consider anchovies fair game in small quantities. If you switch to hendos from now on, add some miso and soy sauces to make up for the lack of god’s tasty little sea gifts.
