Is it necessary? Our house insurance looks like it will cover daughters contents whilst in Uni halls but only if she has stuff stolen by force. Much more likely scenario is leaving her laptop on a bus. She is pretty careful so I think the risk is low, but interested in what other parents do.

I'm totally new to this Uni parent gig.  Cheers

TBH for the price you pay I'd just suck it up - we have a quote for about £7/mo, including cover for out of house (she's in Y2, so in house rather than HoR this year) with I think £150 excess and £1500 single item cover. Mine's a media student so obvs needed a Macbook, not a £300 Chromebook!!

Urban jungle (never heard of them but student specialists) - underwritten by Zurich, AXA, Aegeas, and others.

Will also be doing quote for Endsleigh later but their website kept crashing yesterday.

That is ideal, Urban Jungle is just the ticket.

I have taken out £7.50 per month policy. If you go ahead let me know as I have a referral code now that I can share via PM, I think we both get money back.

Cover while inside included in the accommodation rent. Policy, etc published online by the rental co.

Our home personal possessions covered the laptop, etc when to and fro

Our cover includes two at college/uni, includes break ins at uni home and of course while out and about with them - such as being on bus.
It even covers eldest_oab's bikes away in halls.
I use Aviva.

My home contents doesn't cover accidental damage for students. This is probably the biggest risk factor so £7.50 per month seems fair to cover this.

I'm with LV:

Contents at university/college - see the 'policy limits' table for the amount we'll pay up to, to cover loss or damage to your contents, for the causes listed above, whilst being kept in student accommodation or any building in which you or your
family study within the UK.

Cover dos not include:
- Loss or damage to contents taken from your home to sell or exhibit.
- Accidental damage.
- Loss or damage to money or business equipment.
- Loss or damage to bicycles.
- Theft or attempted theft unless violence and/or force is used to remove the contents from a building.

I'll have a look at Aviva at renewal time.

@franksinatra Will not be doing Endsleigh quote tonight as she's gone out instead but will look at it tomorrow and if we do go with UJ then happy to use a referral code. Do you just get a code, or do you need an email to refer to. PM me ?
