Hi all looking for some advice on where I stand seeking a refund. Last week I entered a race and due to the way that the website was set up I only found after the purchase when directed to another site to pay for parking that parking was now sold out and I would have to purchase one of their travel packages to get to the event. This was already on the very edge of affordability for me so now I feel like backing out and would like my money back.

The company in question are saying that their T&C's state that I can have a credit to my account as it's within a 7 day cooling off period but no refund.

I was under the impression that consumer law gave 14 days as a cooling off period and you were entitled to a full refund even if you simply changed your mind.

Is that correct or did I possibly give my right to that away when I agreed to the T&C's?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I don't know what your statutory rights are for buying a ticket, which I guess is a service, but no T&C's can revoke or remove them. That's why they're statutory.
I'll be honest seems very bad practice to not give you a refund, when they've not had to spend any money out on you, over and above the website and booking system but that's just infrastructure.
I've had to cancel a couple of races before due to injury and every time the organiser has been fine.
Worst case scenario contact your bank / card provider, explain the situation and they may be able to do a charge back, so you get a refund via them effectively.

It does not apply to tickets or entries for sport / leisure / recreation which are for specific dates.

Do you think that they knew that the parking was sold out and deliberately didn’t mention it? Frankly it sounds like a scummy business practice and you should name and shame.

Chat to your credit card company, they might be sympathetic if you go down the scam route.
