Tides? How do they work in the flat earth model?

Some would say the moon circles above the disc earth, same as the sun.

[img] [/img]

[img] [/img]

But some others don't believe in gravity, so I'm not sure how they explain tides.

The plane heading to camp David was most likely shot down imo

TBF I've always thought this. Never gave it enough research/thought as a 'conspiracy' to see how much evidence there was of a passenger revolt (cockpit voice recordings, SMS messages etc) but as soon as that account came out I thought it was a palatable way to cover an uncomfortable truth.

im firmly into the undecided camp until further concrete evidence

Every single branch of the physical sciences is dependant upon a universe where the sun is a spheroid star and the planets orbit it. You need to ask yourself who's more likely to be wrong: every single physicist, geologist, astronomer, evolutionary biologist, astrophysicist and engineer on earth OR a bunch of dickheads?

For irrefutable proof consider the propagation of shockwaves from seismic events. In a flat earth these waves would arrive at different time intervals at different locations on the earth than they do BECAUSE THE EARTH IS A SPHERE.

EDIT: a quick google shows me they've got this covered off, apparently the government did it. Looks like it is a conspiracy after all.

Really? Seriously? Been round the world enough to be convinced. We have proof of a sphere bring back some actual proof of a flat earth, best would be flying under it...

I did some research* and discovered the earth is in fact shaped like a bowl, it's just so all of the water doesn't fall off the edge.

Here, look:

[IMG] [/IMG]

Also the tides work because God is swishing the earth around like brandy in a glass. He may also be smoking a cigar, but I'll have to look into that further.

* I found the first picture on Google images and used that as proof of my theory.

for some reason I watched (most) of that crap you linked to. Basically an interview with an old bloke who'd been to antarctica followed by some weridos making shit up about that the old blokes trip to antarctica. what precisely was the point you were trying to make?

Yeah I'm confused by that too - you seem to have posted old newsreel footage of someone who has been to the south pole as evidence that the south pole doesn't exist??

I think the ancient Vikings had this one covered...

"The fool who fancies he is full of wisdom
While he sits by his hearth at home.
Quickly finds when questioned by others .
That he knows nothing at all. "

ask yourself the Most obvious question, WHY? doesnt ANY non computer generated images exist of the Earth from Space.

But, But, that must mean that "they" had access to high powered CGI back in the 60s!

The government had iMacs when everyone else had to make do with sliderules!

They were playing Angry Birds when the rest of us had to make do with pong.

There's your reason for the flatearth cover up. They just didn't want us to have ipads untill the 21t century.

Bastards!

But there’s nothing boring about conspiracy theories. They make sense of what can sometimes feel like a senseless world. They tell you that you are among the elect: aware of a grand scheme that other people (or sheeple or sleeple as the conspiracy sites often like to call them) are unable or unwilling to see.

That's actually really nice. I've always seen it as the second part- basically "I get off on feeling like Iknow better than you, but it's hard to really know better than others so I believe in nonsense and look down on you because you don't". Which is just not a nice way to think about people. The first bit- making sense of a senseless word- takes the edge off it a lot...

Cheers!

Surely if you don't believe the earth is round you don't believe in (artificial) satellites? Or do people actually not believe in satellites?

I'm in two minds about this. I have no trouble believing that a decision to shoot it down might be taken once it was clear what was going on. But I'd have thought there'd be more evidence if it was? The crash site would look very different wouldn't it?

Lawmanmx: you didn't answer. What bit of "concrete evidence" would convince you one way or the other?

Here's one I've just knocked up. Does that help?

[img] [/img]

Surely if you don't believe the earth is round you don't believe in (artificial) satellites? Or do people actually not believe in satellites?

Correct - most of the FE'ers I've looked at don't believe in satellites and many don't believe in conventional notions of stars, planets or space itself. There is only The Firmament (a big dome) and heaven beyond it.

Must be true because it says so in the bible.

I'm not quoting the bible to back up my case. I have science for that. 🙂
I'm explaining the reason why some FE'ers believe in "the dome" aka Firmament.

In being really late to this party I may be repeating someone else here, but...

You can prove the world is round really easily: Buy/borrow a GoPro, get hold of a tank of helium and a massive baloon and a simple homing device.

Release the balloon and retrieve the GoPro when it returns to earth.

See for yourself!

Many people have done exactly this including schools. It's not hard.

I, for one, don't believe that this flat earth consipiracy exists, but is just a fabrication by the mainstream media to make all the genuine conspiracies seem more ridiculous by association.

A bit like the fact that Trump is a left-wing plant to undermine the Republicans.

My beliefs also.
Strange how all this flat earth theory has only just started kicking off the past year.

This is a joke, right? 😯

Even on a thread about conspiracy theories, you can test this one "by yourself" It's something you can actually do. "Proper science" if you so desire.

In some cases, like 9/11, there is ways the government could have disproved the conspiracy theories.
-Providing full video footage from the garage over the road from the pentagon rather than a couple of frames that do not show an aircraft.
-Allowing study of the scrap metal from the towers rather than rapidly disposing of it.
Like the FACT the Earth is not flat, proven by science, proof won't stop the true 'believers' though...

So have many FE'es - and they "didn't see a curve" (for various reasons).
Search YouTube for "balloon flat earth" and you should find plenty.

e.g. This guys says he is at 121,000 feet:

Any video that shows a curve they dismiss as "wide/fisheye angle lens distortion" - but for some reason that doesn't seem to apply to their videos where they keep the horizon nice and low in the frame 😀

Have you ever watched Crimewatch?

Lots of cheap CCTV equipment only records a few frames a second at a crappy resolution - because recording full 60fps HD video for 24 hours a day kinda eats up storage a bit as any GoPro user will tell you.

Impact speed of that plane was estimated at 530mph.
How many frames of the video would you expect it to appear in?

I'd be well pissed off.

Think of all the time wasted by making all the Northern Hemisphere flights go much slower than the Southern Hemisphere ones just to cover up the lie.

e.g. Qantas fly from Sydney to Santiago every day (QF27/28) and it is only a 12 hour flight in a 747-438, despite that being a huge flight on a flat earth, way further than a flight to the UK.

So clearly these planes can hold much more fuel and can fly much faster than we realise, but They only let that happen in the Southern Hemisphere.

Obviously. 😀

I always get slightly wound up at first and get all "right I'll prove them wrong, idiot theorists!" but then you just have to take a breath and realise that they're not at all interested in having you disprove their theories, and that it's entirely NOT about proof. (well, not the sort of "proof" you can bring to the argument, anyway)

Indeed, that's why I'm wibbling on about it here instead of talking to them directly. I've tried that and it was... demanding.
Any sensible point that they didn't have an answer for was either carefully ignored, attributed to hand-waviness/God/aliens, or just drowned in a sea of entirely unrelated pro-FlatEarth meme pictures till no one remembered it.

I do enjoy the intellectual exercise of considering how best to disprove their points though.

How about videoing yourself allowing for the rotation and curvature of the earth as you shoot them in the head with a sniper rifle from 2km away?

They filled them with Mercury.

It was later written about by Hg Wells.

The guardian thread on flat earth is fab . a bloke who has spent hours patiently explaining physics and debunking the obvious and not so obvious flag earth nonsense outs himself as a Dr of astrophysics to receive this response " So you have a lot riding on this bull, would explain your dishonset and hositile tactics."
Genuine expertise is viewed as worthless by the conspiracy theorist .

Yeah that's fairly standard.

They pick up on any technical or scientific terms you use (things like "oblate spheroid", "refraction", "parallax") as proof that you must be a "shill" for Big Space and the masons.

Which means they can conveniently ignore any evidence that sounds a bit too scientific.

If I could be bothered to find it I'd post the badly photoshopped photo of Prof Brian Cox they use, which conclusively proves he is a 33rd degree Grand Mason and Satanist because his t-shirt has some lines on it. 😆

Surely this B.o.B. person/thing/brand is just using it to gain publicity. No?

It's an amazing phenomenon and should be studied seriously - how people want to form allegiances - how they look for a fight, etc.
It probably has been studied - along with playgrounds, cliques, peer pressure etc.

Nowt so queer as folk.

Unknown. His tweets have been increasingly erratic for some time apparently. He slid from normal tweets to posting about Celebrity Cloning, Mandela Effect, chemtrails, mysterious censorship of his social media posts, and flat earth.

Could be a planned branding exercise. Could be a bloke slowly losing the plot.

(Or could be that's just what They want you to think!)

Either way though - there does seem to be an ever growing number of people who believe all this stuff and are extremely vocal about it on YouTube, social media etc
