I know there are a few real ale beer fans on STW, so I thought this might appeal.

I have no idea if this is real or a spoof, but I suspect probably real.

Apparently "triggered" by a Bud-light ad featuring a non white person or something similarly outrageous.

I found his comment "Americans have been drinking beer from a company which doesn't even know which restroom to use" after staring at a sign puzzling.

Firstly the sign is very clear it has the word "women" written on it, what is the confusion? And secondly Ultra Right beer is sold only online so how does that help to direct you to the correct toilets?

I think an explanation is needed.

It's getting more and more difficult to detect satire and/or legit bigotry now. I suspect that is a legit beer produced by someone that is genuinely prejudiced.

Didn't watch the video... they'll probably make more money from views than sales.

The background as I recall it... Bud-light sent some free beer (and presumably some hard cash) to a trans-women with lots of online followers. An influencer if you like. People got upset that a trans-women might drink and promote beer. It might be funny if it wasn't for the state level laws around medical care, clothing, entertainment, teaching etc coming in off the back of such ridiculous outrage building... we could do a whole thread on that...

Apparently conservatives were buying Bud-light just so they could video themselves pouring it down drains in disgust!

That taught Budweiser a lesson!

Interestingly, the makers of Ultraright are reluctant to say who's making it. They claim that it's made in North Illinois, which might be a way of avoiding saying it's Chicago, because there's only really one brewer/cannery there, and its Anheuser Busch; the same place that makes Bud Light.

LOL! isn't coors techincally Canadian? not very patriotic heheh!
Plus the adverts featuring Jean Claude Van Dame prancing around half naked on a mountain top are a little bit homo-erotic to say the least, heheeh!

Who knew that buying sub-standard lager was such a political mine field?

AB also do a brand called Michelob which isn't too terrible, but you don't often see it in the UK these days.

He's getting all cross and chucking out his Bud lite, partly because of it's LGBTQ ties and replacing it with Coors lite which has even stronger LGBTQ ties.

I'd take a 'full fat' bud over a carling or carlsberg to be fair.
But they are all just fizzy tasteless water with a bit of alcohol thrown in.

It’s water cosplaying as beer.

I used to regularly buy Michelob, really nice flavour, slightly fruity, (oo-er), and significantly stronger than most commercial beers in the States; Michelob was 5%ABV,  all others are 3.2%, IIRC, which is an excellent way of making huge amounts of money because it encourages drinkers to neck a lot more beer in order to get shitfaced

Monty Python live in Hollywood 1982... 😂

The level of self-own that some right wing Americans are displaying over the whole debacle is absolutely epic!

This all reminds me of a rather famous Simpons episode (excuse the quality of the video, obviously there's a copyright over any original content on youtube!)...

Naively, I'm hoping this is satire...it's sufficiently "realistic" to appeal to MAGA-morons and also "realistic" enough to trigger the woke/left/libtards, so an all-round winner and crafty piece of viral mischief 😆

I'm not sure I've ever tried Bud, but I think it's a rice beer. Those beers are a bit like Corona, they aren't a traditional beer and you're thinking about them wrong if you make that mistake. Corona is a nice drink in hot weather, but it's a different drink to an ale.

I went to a conference in Shanghai years ago and some colleagues and I wandered off to a Chinese bar that had a cowboy theme and karaoke. They served a 2.5% alcohol rice "beer", you'd buy a bunch of bottles in a bucket of ice. The weather was utterly steaming hot and humid. You would not want to drink a traditional ale in that climate, but a light rice beer served ice cold works really well. I suspect Bud would be the same - a refreshing hot weather drink, but not a substitute for traditional beer.

If by Rice beer, you mean beer that uses rice in the 'grain bill' along with barley - that's been around since at least the 19th century.
If you mean rice-based beer, that's been around for thousands of years.
If you mean traditional ale as the British type ... well that only became the most common beer by volume of sales in England in 1963!

Bud is just fizzy water with a vague taste of something - and that something isn't particularly pleasant. I've only ever had any volume of Coors on one occasion as a student and two things stood out - it didn't taste of much and it gave me a crippling headache the next day. Both are so meh that if it was a stinking hot day and they were the only beers on offer, I'd probably have a lemonade and be glad of avoiding the hangover.

Is the original notion of this thread satire? Honestly, who can tell nowadays?

That has to be satire. I hope it is. Surely it is?
No one in their right mind would get that worked up about beer that they go and create a whole new brand?
The video looks too polished to have come from someone so mouth-frothingly upset by having their feelings hurt by another companies LGBQT+ ties.

Oh hang on, this is America. It's probably real.

Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons! 🤣

Anecdotally I noticed it was almost always bud light cans strewn at the side of the trail on the Tour Divide. Particularly in New Mexico. Draw your own conclusions on the typical BL drinker!

It might be easy to ridicule but Budweiser aren't finding the Conservative backlash amusing.

Sales of the beer fell around the country with some reports suggesting bottle sales were down 30 percent while tap sales plummeted by as much as 50 percent in some areas.

Bud Light's parent company Anheuser-Busch subsequently lost $6bn in value, leading to the firm issuing a statement apologising for any offence while acknowledging the sensitivity of trans-rights and gender-identity issues.

https://talk.tv/news/11534/budweiser-releases-new-patriotic-pro-america-ad-after-transgender-anheuser-busch-mulvaney-controversy

So they have managed to get Budweiser to issue an apology and presumably made other manufacturers think twice about wading into contentious issues.

And the Conservatives have managed to now get this out of Budweiser:

The new video features the New York City skyline, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, small towns, farmland and two people raising an American flag as one places her hand over her heart.

"Brewed for those who found opportunity in challenge and hope in tomorrow," the narrator says as the horse passes the Lincoln memorial the pair raising the flag.

Sounds like a huge win for the Conservatives to me.

I think it's a parody of some sort.

The North Illinois is quite prominent on their website and has been pointed out this means only one company.

Also, the price is ridiculous high. Has to be a pisstake, pardon the pun.

Nothing wrong with beer brewed with rice, Tsingtao is great. It was set up be German brewers in the 19th century, it's not the most interesting flavour but much better than the generic UK brewed lagers (Carlsberg etc)

That happened here as well.

I remember during the panic buying phase, at the local Morrisons, the only beer left on the shelves was Corona, I didn't buy it either. Not because of it's name but because it is complete shite.

AB also do a brand called Michelob which isn’t too terrible, but you don’t often see it in the UK these days.about half the beer on the planet.

Budweiser is awful though, it's like vodka and soda, every flavor that's left in there is bad.

all others are 3.2%, IIRC, which is an excellent way of making huge amounts of money because it encourages drinkers to neck a lot more beer in order to get shitfaced

Fun fact, carling is only 3.5%. They only need to be within 0.5% of the stated amount, but pay tax based on the actual amount. Being a huge industrial brewer means they've got the process nailed down to the degree that they can consistently hit 3.5% and don't need the margin for error.

A quick google states that Budweiser has 5% alcohol.

Now a few years ago I was working in Baltimore, staying in a little apartment, bought a case of Budweiser. There was no alcohol content on the cans or case. I drank several and could not feel the slightest affect of the alcohol. I don't think it would be possible to get "properly" pissed on it, there is no way it is 5%.

I have brewed a lot of all grain beer and I know what 5% feels like!

Either way. It's mildly funny. Despite just being a well-targetted advert.

Remember humour? When people didn't take stuff so seriously?

But it does remind me of the "Advertising and Marketing" schtick from Bill Hicks:

bud light is 4.2 in the USA. the light in the name is a reference to the flavour.

if i remember correctly, most mainstream beers in the USA are 5% (unless you are in Utah where the laws around alcohol sales are different). it’s a while since i lived there and i didn’t/don’t drink that kind of beer, so i could be wrong.

edit: america is odd. the backlash against gillette when they released a “woke” advert was hilarious. i’m not even sure if there was any gay in it!

Wikipedia reckons Carling is Canadian and owned by Molson Coors, which I’d not have guessed.

Also the official beer of the Scotland football team which seems odd as all the beer I remember growing up was Tennent’s, McEwen’s or some variation on 80/-

IIRC the original Carling was born in Yorkshire in the 19thC, grew up in Canada, started a brewery. In the 1950s/60s or thereabouts the brewery brought their fizzy lagery nonsense to the UK and ruffled a few feathers.

I got blindsided by some really tasty beer in New Hampshire once. Because there was no abv on them I consumed as if they were 4% and was rather confused when I saw it all again at the end of the night. Turned out to be more like 8%. Should have guessed from the name. It was called something like Old Thumper.

I think the gillete ad was a parent breaking up a kids fight while other parents watched on and laughed, and something along the lines of the parent that acted being the "real man" for not needing to be toxic masculinity. Which seemed to threaten the conservatives dads attempts to project their masculinity, and ended up with them getting their panties in a twist.
