Connecting Bluetooth headphones to stereo

I've got some relatively decent Bluetooth headphones that I'd like to connect to my old stereo system.

Appreciate that may be a blasphemous statement to the audiophiles on here! But whilst most the time I will enjoy through my speakers there are occasions when I'm told I need to turn it down so I'd like to have the option of headphones then.

Is it just a case of getting a Bluetooth receiver - if so, how important is the quality? and does anyone have any recommendations on which to buy (or alternative solutions)

You need a Bluetooth transmitter, not receiver. There are loads on eBay for under £20. I also had to buy a 1/4" to 3.5mm Jack converter as my old amp had a 1/4" headphone socket. Seems to work ok.

What outputs has your stereo got? What headphones are they and what BT codecs are they capable of?

If it's bluetooth you might just be better connecting to your phone and streaming if you have the option.  Otherwise it is indeed a transmitter and not a receiver that you need.  If you run your TV through your hifi then you are looking for something that uses aptX low latency such as this

Sennheiser BT T100 – Thomann België

Your old stereo system may not necessarily have an output...ie something that can connect to a Bluetooth transmitter... Worth checking this first.

It would be an unusual stereo system that didn’t have a headphone socket on the front, even high-end kit should have a headphone socket somewhere, real audiophiles like having insanely expensive headphones so like to plug them in somewhere.

I plug mine into my phone, it’s just easier than having a cable stretched across the room to the amp, then having to keep getting up to change CD’s - everything on the phone’s Lossless so no significant difference.

Thanks all, should’ve said I will continue to use phone for Spotify but this is so I can listen to vinyl on stereo.
Appreciate that might defeat audio quality aspect but still like the sensation of putting a record on rather than just listening to a stream

If it's got a headphone socket, you are in luck with a bluetooth transmitter. I use a bluetooth receiver on the aux in on my 1986 JVC separates system.
