So up in the loft i have two old P.C speaker set ups with subs
In the house i have a Yamaha r-n500 amp connected to some Warfedale speakers
In the garage i have a Cambridge Audio Topaz AM5 amp connected to another set of Warfdale speakers
Now being tight and wanting to add more bass without spending any money, is it possible to connect the P.C subs to my current amplifiers?
Here is the back of the P.C sub
Yamaha amp
Cambridge amp
The Yamaha has a "sub pre out". Connect that to "audio input" on the sub. Or possibly the "aux in" as that appears to have a volume control which may allow you to adjust the amount of bass. Connect your mean speakers to the amp as normal, not to the speaker out sockets on the sub.
On the Cambridge the "rec out" to the "aux in" might work (you will need the volume control to adjust bass as rec out is a fixed level). You would need to adjust the volume on the sub when you adjust the amp volume to keep the balance the same, so not ideal.
What he said.
I've a similar set up, but with a regular hi-fi sub rather than a PC one.
Dunno about the cambridge, but the sub pre out on the Yamahamp should work (RCA plug from the pre-out to a headphone jack to plug into the sub.
Wire stereo speakers to the yamaha as normal.
If the amp is anything like mine, you have to enable the sub pre out in the menu.
This stops 'bass' going to the regular speakers and you can also set the bass level from 1-10 or something.
Cheers guys
Just set up the sub in the garage, as you said the sub needs the volume adjusted when adjusting the volume on the Cambridge amp which is no biggie
Will look at the Yamaha amp tomorrow as ive got a napping 5 year old on the sofa next to the set up
Whatfedalea are/were generally pretty good - moreso than pc subs I would think. Would be interested to know if there is an improvement!
