Ignore this, i've answered my own question!
What router? As you're trying to get all outbound traffic via a VPN it's a LAN to LAN VPN, rather than using a software client on a specific device.
When you say the router manufacturer offers a VPN service I expect the reality is that the router has the capability to connect to a VPN. You will still need to pay for a VPN provider.
I'd recommend some research on providers and your routers capabilities.
Assume this is just for the usual tinfoil hat/porn reasons and forthcoming UK Gov wish to have a backdoor to encrypted traffic rather than trying to radicalise people on the internet or learn how to make IEDs.
Yea, that's what I just realised. I got confused - the service they offer is for managing the device. I still need a VPN service. Sorry for the dumb question!
It's perversly for work reasons. I am located in a different region to where I conduct business and keep getting blocked from sites I need/which are useful.
There's also SmartDNS. You generally have more bandwidth in practiser. I use it from China to UK for Prime Video, which isn't blocked. VPN for websites/services blocked by the GFW.
Some services offer both, like Getflix (which can be an affordable lifetime service payment)
