Any lawyers on here who can explain concurrent sentences?
A person is found guilty of three crimes, each of would be punished with a life sentence.
He/She receives three life sentences, to be served concurrently
He/She gets out after serving the minimum recommended term for one life sentence
Where's the punishment for the other two crimes?
The crim feels really, REALLY REALLY bad (ie 3* as bad) about it.
..and doesn't get any pudding either
Concurrent means running alongside. However its a minimum tariff for imprisonment for murder so if you behave and if you admit guilt and show remorse you get out on the minimum tariff but are still subject to probation and recall at any time. ie you are still serving that life sentence just no longer in jail.
What it means is if you are subsequently found not guilty of one of the murders then you are not released 'cos you are still serving for the other two.
