My son's games development course continues and he's started a new module. This time he's looking at coin operated/arcade type games.

There's an initial survey and, based on responses to that, a more detailed one to follow.

As always, thanks in advance for filling it in.

Is coin op still a thing though?

I thought it was reduced to crappy dance machines at bowling alleys

Coin op's still good for games that need kit- sit-in racing games, shooters, that sort of thing. Nascar Team Racing, I think it is, at my local bowling place always gets a few quid off me- lots of noise and force feedback.

Though tbh if they got a bank panic machine I'd spend all day putting 10p pieces in it.

Done. Think the last fun I had on coin-ops was in the days of Double Dragon, SF2 and Supersprint

Done. Dunno what it was called but played a sit-on motorbike style game at a bowling alley recently. Great laugh

Done. The world needs more decent coin-ops, not just shooting bad guys style Time Crisis 10 etc etc etc.
Sega Rally 2 FTW!

Done.

In Oklahoma a few months ago, there was an arcade game bar, full of all sorts of things from pacman to street fighter, Tekken, star wars etc.

Made for a great night out! Great social atmosphere as well when randoms joins in for multiplayer.

I think there will be a market for the 90s to early 00s arcades. I miss light gun game since TVs went all flat.

Time Crisis was a revelation when it came out (I can hide behind boxes!)

Oh and survey filled in 🙂
