my router has a usb port, is it possible to plug in an external hard drive so i can use it as a sort of home cloud for storage?
primary device would be an android tablet, but there is an ipad too, i have a load of content on the hard drive, pictures movies music etc.
its a bt homehub if that helps.

probably I can do this on my router. I've plugged in a usb stick as a test. I tend to find it a bit crashy on my router.

My is an O2 box II I think.

A dedicated NAS might be better.

I was going to say "maybe, depends on the router" - but then you mentioned the type 🙂

Apparently yes, you can. See here: https://community.bt.com/t5/Other-BB-Queries/Using-and-external-hard-drive-with-Home-Hub-3/td-p/330681

Yup totally possible. It's called NAS - network attached storage. You can get dedicated NAS drives with their own wireless/Ethernet ports on them, or you can USB them to routers like you suggested.
