Seems the OH has just won a competition.

So, we're off to Manchester Velodrome at the weekend to ride with Team GB...!

As a MTB-er, I'm somewhat out of my comfort zone.

More advice would involve a full body shave (for that highly-evolved look) and the donning of an over-sized pistachio shell on your head.

Offhand,

I don't know who any of these people are.

I'm not overly great with road bikes, never really got the measure of road bikes.

I've never used clipless pedals (or clips for that matter).

Baggy clothes are vitoed, so I can't wear my nice Endura shorts (other than the liner I guess; stylish).

Still. It's riding round in a big circle, how hard can it be, right?

So long as you split the £250 with me when you send it to You've Been Framed.

Might be worth looking at some recent youtube videos of the London test event and the world champs.
Then you'll know the calibre of the people you're riding with!

Good luck!

Well, I did it.

Pics to follow, but it was an interesting experience. Lightweight fixie, drop handles and no brakes. My quads are utterly buggered.

Yeah, maybe three quarters of the way up.

I'd maybe have managed more, but when we were doing the drafting bit, there was a big crash right behind me which threw a spanner in the works and stopped play. Guy at the front of the line peeled off out, then slowed down to a point where gravity went "er, excuse me..." He went for a burton, took out two or three other riders and was carted off with concussion.

After that a few restarted and carried on in that session, but I couldn't draft cos I couldn't catch the ****ers.

Incidentally,

That banking is 42'. It's steeper than it looks!

Also,

Ed Clancy and Andy Tennant are both very tall indeed.

It's all relative.

Looking at height difference, Andy must be about 6'3".

Did you wear some discrete thigh padding to fit in? 😉 Now you know where Hoy gets his legs from.

he he. I've had a few gravity moments on that banking. The only proper crash I've had though, chap in front of me dropped down the banking to avoid hitting someone who had slowed down, I was coming up and hit his back wheel. Cue 35mph slide. One very expensive pair of bib-shorts gone, one jersey, gone. BUmmer.

I think my favourite bit (had a track-day similar to Cougar's) was the "flying 200" - as you got the track to yourself for a few laps. One to get moving, one kinda fast, up onto the banking as high as you dared. Then the rush of that drop down to the intersection of the start line with (I think) the blue tape to hit the "flying 200" start halfway round the banking. Finally a balls out sprint round to the finish line. Soooo much fun.

I'd thoroughly recommend an experience like to it anyone, not just those interested in cycling. No traffic, no red light jumping, no gears, no brakes...just fun, fun, fun.

My least favourite part?

Excellent!
Good fun isn't it?

Only been once, (on a STW organised beginners session) and really enjoyed it.

Only dodgy moment was when I managed to lean on the gate and slide the catch open. Very nearly a Del Boy moment. 😀

Your OH is doing a great job of averting her eyes in that photo 🙂

Easy, Trigger!

I'm not sure as she's 'averting' so much as 'rolling' them.
