Clearing out a ton of rubbish and just found a few hundred.
Some very early issues, but mostly 70's & 80's.
Not great condition, all yellowed now, the very early ( sub 100) issues were bought secondhand & are a bit ropey.
Skip or sell?
Take them to your local [s]massive nerd cave[/s] comic store and see what they say?
(used to love Commando when I was a lad)
Its how I became fluent in German 😆
Just had a massive nostalgia fest reading a few.
How impressionable were we?
The age of realism and live reporting has really knocked the romance out of killing people.
Perfect propoganda for the post war generation, don't think these would have the same appeal to those who can watch the reality of war in HD.
Its how I became fluent in German
Mainly "Achtung!", "Schnell, schnell", "Schweinhund" and "Aaiiieeeeee!" 😆
GOTT IN HIMMEL!
Its how I became fluent in German :)
all the German I know came from these;
"Raus! Raus!"
"Gott in Himmel"
"Wasser"
"Hilf! Hilf!
Fluency has escaped me but my children are now trained to get out of bed when they hear the first phrase.
...and just found a few hundred.
Man. You've got issues.
Man. You've got issues.
Back.. issues...
There's a huge collector's scene of absolutely everything ever, especially for things that current pretend-adults liked when they were kids. But whether there's a real market I don't know. Quick ebay search suggests there probably is.
Back.. issues...
They published four a week!
And I kept them all.
Its how I became fluent in German
For you the war is over Tommy is apparently not German. I was very embarassed.
I have issue 1 of Commando. bought for 2p from a school fair.
Swapsies?
I flogged a load on eBay some years ago acquired from a charity shop.
You may surprise yourself and earn a few quid.
As has been said people collect all sorts. Look at the prices paid for old bike stuff..
Look at the prices paid for NEW bike stuff........
Its how I became fluent in German
..and Japanese, by Shinto
BANZAI!
For you the war is over Tommy is apparently not German
No but "For you ze var is over Tommy" is - really.
BTW, no stash of Commandos here, but a few hundred 2000ADs from around prog 180 turned up during a clear out. That was a night of tidying that ended wallowing in nostalgia as well.
Appalling grammatical error there. The subject has to come second:
For you, Tommy, ze war is over.
Used to get free copies of Commando back in the 70s as our next door neighbour worked in DCThomson 🙂
I flippin' love commando comics. I'd pay a few quid for a copy.
Did you want to sell any?
don't think these would have the same appeal to those who can watch the reality of war in HD
Not so sure about that - get one of the services charities to ship them out to Afghanistan, Squaddies bloody love'em!
i'd read somewhere that some of the first ones came about to try and get the stories across to the children of ex-service men who were probably not that inclinded to share with their kids what they had got up to in the war.
Yes pudd, email in profile mate.
Give me a few days to read 'em all though!
Some of the artwork is amazing.
I spent many a happy day in my yoof seeking out and reading them. I'll happily shell out a few quid for some and so will my wife. Will email you in due course
There have been a few "best of" type collections released recently. About 10 0r 12 stories in each volume. Edited by George Low. I've been buying them and wallowing in great nostalgia.
Anyone want to buy several hundred 2000ADs?
